Kayaking Wilderness First Aid Class & IYAK Social

Wilderness First Aid Class & IYAK Social

This will be a great opportunity to learn the basics of first response in the event of a medical emergency while kayaking.

Instructor Ariel Sergent will utilize her healthcare background to provide specific training on how to go into action when an issue arises while enjoying the great outdoors.

All participants will be given a folder containing class related handouts, notepad, pen, and other information.

In addition to a learning experience, this will be a fun time to connect with other IYAKers before our paddling season begins...

The low $10 charge is to cover the printing/materials cost for the class and the logistics expense to utilize the facility. If you are a dues paying IYAK member it will only be $5. Cash or check payments can be made on-site.

Enjoyed the class today. I was glad to have gotten to meet some of you.
In the interest of further training I'm thinking about taking this class, http://www.soloschools.com/index.cfm?event=courses.show&ctid=1####. Does anyone have any thoughts on the class or the company SOLO?
    Thanks in advance.

Keep me posted. The more knowledge I try to shovel in, the better it may be in some emergency! Hope to meet you this year.

I've not taken the class but it's been around for a long while and the company is well known. It's a multi-day so most likely rather intense, so be ready.

I had to leave early for another event. . sounds like I missed a great deal more of great info. Got to thinking, though, in light of prevention & safety, was there any talk about each of us carrying pertinent medical information with us that could be referred to in case of emergency. . .medications/supplements, health conditions, etc.? Carry in sealed pouch that is easy to locate/identify. Would be happy to work with someone on this to create a simple form.

This is a good group for you then Sharon. Many of our members are beginners so don't feel unqualified to join us. We will be offering classes throughout the season.

Please be aware that this is NOT the Red Cross Wilderness First Aid course. That course costs around $125 per person which priced it out of consideration for many members. This class will be educational but there is no certification for it.

    1 · February 28, 2013

    • Bob H.

This is fine. I am already certified and am taking this class as a refresher.

    2 · February 27, 2013
