Join us for a day hike to a little-visited corner of Idaho. The hike is a 12.5 mile loop that uses jeep trails, cattle trails, game trails and good ol' fashioned cross-county hiking to link up two peaks north of Emmett. The first is the High Point of Payette County--at 4,763', Idaho's 41st highest County Highpoint! The second, Willow Ridge, is a broad summit overlooking a fantastic valley simply known as "Big Flat".
The Crunch: 12.5 miles roundtrip with 3,500' of elevation gain and loss. (see "Is This Hike For You?" below)
When and Where: We will meet at the Home Depot on State St at 6:00 AM on Saturday to carpool. From there we'll drive to the trailhead. The route includes possibly-snowy dirt roads so 4WD is recommended.
Is this hike for you? This hike is intended for intermediate to strong hikers. NOT a beginner's hike. Come prepared to spend a full day out in the hills. Hazards include possible winds, cold, snow, and hiking in the dark. Part of the planned route may cross private property - if that is the case we will need to detour, adding another mile and ~500' of gain.
Weather:We expect snow on the ground but not enough for snowshoes--though it wouldn't hurt to bring some if ya got'em. Temperatures should be in the 30s, partly sunny if we get above the fog.
