Spend Saturday above the Inversion!

Join us for a day hike to a little-visited corner of Idaho. The hike is a 12.5 mile loop that uses jeep trails, cattle trails, game trails and good ol' fashioned cross-county hiking to link up two peaks north of Emmett. The first is the High Point of Payette County--at 4,763', Idaho's 41st highest County Highpoint! The second, Willow Ridge, is a broad summit overlooking a fantastic valley simply known as "Big Flat".

The Crunch: 12.5 miles roundtrip with 3,500' of elevation gain and loss. (see "Is This Hike For You?" below)

When and Where: We will meet at the Home Depot on State St at 6:00 AM on Saturday to carpool. From there we'll drive to the trailhead. The route includes possibly-snowy dirt roads so 4WD is recommended.

Is this hike for you? This hike is intended for intermediate to strong hikers. NOT a beginner's hike. Come prepared to spend a full day out in the hills. Hazards include possible winds, cold, snow, and hiking in the dark. Part of the planned route may cross private property - if that is the case we will need to detour, adding another mile and ~500' of gain.

Weather:We expect snow on the ground but not enough for snowshoes--though it wouldn't hurt to bring some if ya got'em. Temperatures should be in the 30s, partly sunny if we get above the fog.

But add back in 1 mile for the grueling hike to the car :)

I'd like to do carpooling from Emmett. I can take my 4WD which seats 5 if anyone wants to ride with me. Otherwise, if I can ride in someone else's 4WD from Emmett I'll just bring my passenger car and leave it in Emmett.

I am probably going to have to decline most hikes at the moment as much as I love to hike. I am finding life to be very busy at the moment. I am working part time at the job I have been at for 16 years and love and another opportunity has presented itself. I will be busy at that. How do you limited the numbers of emails from this club? I am probably aiming towards spring before I can consider getting out on hikes. I am not quite sure how you all handle hiking in very cold temperatures

If you click on "Account" at the top right hand of the meetup page, it will go to your account settings. On the menu of the left there is an option to change what emails you get. We'll look forward to seeing you this spring!

Hi Roberta, sorry that you are receiving too many emails. It looks like you belong to 15 Meetup groups so you must be getting bombarded by plenty of emails. For every Meetup group you belong to, you will have to individually go into each one of your Meetup groups and change your email preferences under "Account" then to "Email and notifications". Let me know if I can help you further on this. :)

Mark could you tell me about how long of a drive time wise we will have to get to the TH? thx

    January 23, 2014

    • Mark

Just shy of 2 hours. It could be longer if the roads are in bad shape, but I don't expect them to be too bad.

    Mark,
I'd like to arrange to meet the group in Emmett. If you will be taking Hwy 52 to Emmett, I could meet you at the Chevron gas station at the intersection of Hwy 52 and Idaho 16 (Washington Ave) the main drag through Emmett.

    January 23, 2014

    • Mark

That should be just fine. We should be there around 6:30AM. Travis, I imagine you'll want to meet us in Emmett as well?

      January 23, 2014

    • Travis

Yeah I will be same place as Larry!
