Announcing a new Meetup for "Ideas that shaped history" discussion group!
What: NON-FICTION BOOKS THAT SHAPED OUR WAY OF THINKING
When: Sunday, February 14,[masked]:30 PM
949 N. Hill Ave.
Pasadena, CA 91104
First of all, I would like to thank all of you for making this group possible. My long-time dream ? to have a group of people who regularly get together and deeply explore serious topics? has come true, thanks to you guys. I?m very happy that I started this group. I?m even happier that you honored me by joining it.
At our last meeting we agreed, at Karen?s suggestion, that we?ll conduct our next meeting a little differently. Each of the participants is invited to bring a non-fiction book and to introduce the rest of the group to that book. The book should conform to the following criteria:
? It should be non-fiction;
? It should be on a topic related to intellectual history, or the history of ideas;
? Most importantly, it should be a book that changed your way of thinking, or at least greatly influenced it.
We?ll give each one of you ten minutes to talk about your chosen book. Yes, I know it will be a challenge to squeeze in all you have to say into just ten minutes ? but do your best.
At the end, we?ll choose one book that will be the topic of discussion during our next meeting. If we cannot settle on one book, we might choose two ? for our March and April meetings, or even three ? for March, April, and May.
The meeting will take place on the second Sunday in February, 2/14/10, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Laura?s home. Please bring some snacks or juice to share. Last meeting?s selection of snacks was marvelous?Elan even brought a recipe that might have been made in the time of the Roman Empire!
