Jazz Institute Annual Jazz Club Tour

Every year the Jazz Institute of Chicago's Annual Jazz Club Tour officially kicks off Chicago Jazz Fest

The JIC gratefully acknowledges the support from its new presenting sponsor - The Drake Hotel ...and its media sponsor - 90.9fm WDCB.

The promotional button grants attendees access to all 14 participating venues as well as trolley transportation between the jazz venues which include venerable jazz clubs, small joints, and community centers throughout Chicago. Explore and enjoy the longstanding bebop traditions of the Jazz Showcase in the south Loop, the upscale environs of the Drake Hotel’s Palm Court and Coq d’Or, and everything in between.

There is a link to a PDF file on this site that has all the clubs and trolley routes.

I did this last year and it was great fun. (and very safe no matter where you go) Although known for the blues, Chicago is also a well known jazz destination.

As online sales have closed, I will be going downtown on Tuesday to buy tickets. If you would like me to also buy your tickets to save $10, please contact me.

A great center location to start is the Marmon Grand, as you can jump on any trolley route from there and it serves food. I plan on being there shortly after 6 p.m.

Some information from the Club Tour pdf map-

Enjoy the Music from 6-7pm, the Trolleys Roll at 7pm
50 Yard Line, Norman’s Bistro, Mayne Stage & MARMON GRAND are clubs where you can make a
quick crosstown transfer.
Pick the clubs you’d like to visit and plan your route accordingly. Best bet is to pick 4 or 5 clubs.
Trolleys stop at each club approx every 30 minutes starting at 7pm.
LAST TROLLEY leaves each club at Midnight! After that you’re on your own!

Hope to see you!

It was a great time, felt very welcome at all the south side clubs we visited, and heard some great music. We finished at the Drake for a late night munch with jazz.

After buying three badges today at the Jazz Showcase, I drove to the Marmon Grand to scout the proximate area for parking. This club is a couple blocks west of McCormick Place and there are new residential properties close by.
Parking - Some streets have residential permit or pay parking but there are several streets that have free parking -
23rd Street east and west of Michigan ( south side of street west of Michigan is permit parking)
    Indiana Ave south of Cermak
    21st Street east of Michigan
Prairie south of 21st Street (to Cermak)
Lot owned by several local companies with no signage and anyone can park there - SW corner of Wabash and Cermak
(Small lot at NE corner of Cermak and Prairie is $20)

Some streets have no parking during Soldiers Field events which will not affect us on Wednesday.

Please text me if you cannot find us at the Marmon Grand (6-7) or want to possibly meetup later in the evening (as the Andy's / Drake group)

How would I meetup with everyone if I go?

For those driving in to go, wouldn't it be safer /easier to park/ meet near the Drake or Andys? Usually start at Andys and end there too?

I discussed this with our threesome and we really want to get started on the South Loop 1 route right at seven, and be back in the Loop area later. The trolleys don't start moving until 7, while the music starts at 6. Can we meetup later at a south Loop club or maybe at the Drake ?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
