Immodest Proposals XVII: The Kosher Pig, and other Bioengineered Foods

Hello Immodest Proposals Members!

Better Worlds is excited to bring you the next event in our long-running series at the Way Station.

Do you find yourself nervous about the future of food?  Do you wonder why "GMO" is something people worry about?  Do you think there's a better way than factory farms?

Or do you think we need to make the fastest, coolest, most genetically-altered chickens in the universe?  Should we grow meat in jars to make it more humane and efficient?  Should we make super-vegetables and kosher pigs?

COME, join John Skylar at Immodest Proposals XVII and share your opinion!

We have a panel planned as well, to be announced in the coming days.

We'll get together at The Waystation, an awesome bar in Prospect Heights, and discuss these questions.

Waystation is the only steampunk bar we've ever heard of, and for anyone who is a Doctor Who fan, it's also got a TARDIS restroom that's bigger on the inside!

For those of you who don't like British science fiction, the bar slings some excellent drinks and always has a good craft brew on tap.

$5 in advance/$10 at the door (no fees)  Free for those who have purchased a subscription for this season (through Immodest Proposals XX)!

We've set it up so that you can pay in advance when you RSVP with meetup!  Online RSVPs will be open though February 13th at 4 PM.

DOORS at 7:15, event starts at 7:45.  We've got an awesome singer/songwriter on after us at the Way Station, and things get pretty happenin' on Wednesdays there, so we want to start and finish a little earlier to be sure that you guys get more time to hang out after the event.

As last time, if we get more than 20 attendees, we'll be raffling off a free Better Worlds t-shirt!  Hopefully we'll see one or two of our past winners there with their t-shirt.

ALSO AS LAST TIME, the Way Station is offering happy hour pricing to us throughout the event, so you get even more with your attendance.

All costs go right back in to getting awesome opportunities and venues for Immodest Proposals meetings.  Not a cent is wasted.

Sadly, we cannot offer refunds if you miss the event.

It wasn't the most interesting IP topic, but it was worthwhile, and we covered a lot of ground.

Conversation touched on a broad range of ethical issues surrounding the food chain, with imaginative thrusts into the future of that food chain.

We should run until about 10:30 tonight, Duayne. Feel free to come by late.

I really want to go, but I have class until 9. If I get out early I'll be there late. Is that ok?
