Hiking: Mormon Trail + Fat Mans Pass

Come join me for this interesting hike. My main goal for this hike is to go through the Fat Mans Pass part of south mountain, which most notably has a point where you can go through a relatively thin rock opening. Here is a picture of someone in one of the thiner points.

There is a way around this, but there are still other confined spaces, so if you are very claustrophobic, this may not be the hike for you. There are also places where you are walking up fairly smooth rock, so it is important to have good grip.

This hike has a fairly substantial grade to it, I can't give exact numbers because we will be going from trail to trail, but expect a challenge. We will be going about a mile on the Mormon Trail, and then do about a half mile loop around the Fat Mans Pass Area, and then the mile back on the Mormon Trail again. I do have a possible extension mapped if we want to go farther, but we can decide on that based on how we feel when we are nearing it. Here is a map of the hike, the purple line is the base hike, the red line is the extension:

The exact address of the trailhead parking lot is 8610 South 24th Street Phoenix, AZ 85042. It is back behind a neighborhood, but google knows where it is, so just make sure to use a map or GPS, otherwise call me if you are lost or running late, my number is[masked]-5613.

Hope to see you all there! -Rick

This is a really cool hike guys. I don't know if the path back after fat man's pass will be the same as the one I took. But the hike is definitely interesting. If it's convenient for you to drive here, do it.
