Chef (at Parkway 8 Cinema), then discussion at Demetrios Pizza & Grill

Not an "independent film" but should be worthwhile...  Cast looks very good.

Chef Carl Casper (Jon Favreau) suddenly quits his job at a prominent Los Angeles restaurant after refusing to compromise his creative integrity for its controlling owner (Dustin Hoffman), he is left to figure out what's next. Finding himself in Miami, he teams up with his ex-wife (Sofia Vergara), his friend (John Leguizamo) and his son to launch a food truck. Taking to the road, Chef Carl goes back to his roots to reignite his passion for the kitchen -- and zest for life and love.  R, 1 hr. 55 min. Comedy.

After film, we'll gather briefly outside cinema then go to Demetrios Pizza & Grill for discussion.  3180 University Pkwy, 366-2233.  They are just across North Lockwood Ridge Rd.

I saw this movie yesterday in Dunedin and was interested in the comments. IMHO, the movie was well acted and the kitchen scenes were realistic. They brought back memories of my childhood when I visited my father who was a chef at Brown's (a major Catskill Mountain NY resort). The joy of preparing and cooking food were also transmitted well. Those were enjoyable parts of the movie.

The message was so obvious (i.e., do what you love and you will love your work) that it was painful to watch. It felt like a children's fable to me! I expect subtlety in messaging from a really good film.

The ending was so “feel good” that it ruined the movie for me. Not only did the chef get a great restaurant but his ex-wife and he remarried (and lived happily ever after). I would have loved to see the movie end with the chef running that great little food truck and his son working with him on the weekends, all the time building a strong father-son bond.

Back to Burns and avante garde films for me

I think it was so much better for father son bond that the parents got re-married. Son will hopefully follow his Father's footsteps into a brilliant, self sufficient career... he certainly seemed unafraid if hard work and new skills. Really enjoyed this light hearted film.

MY FIRST TIME. VERY ENJOYABLE. OF COURSE TO NOISY TO REALLY TALK,BUT THAT IS PART OF THE FUN. VOLUNTEERS TO LEAD THE GROUP AFTER EACH MOVIE IS A GREAT IDEA. EVERYONE GETS A TURN WHO WANTS ONE.

The film was fun and so was the meet-up. Since this was my first time, I found it difficult to get to know others, but look forward to next time when it is a bit more quiet. Thanks!

Wow! We really had a big group tonight as well as a lot of new faces. It was hard to mingle, but maybe next time will be easier. Glad you joined us, Sarah, but sorry I didn't get to meet you!

Chef was a great, "feel-good" movie. A nice break from the action movies and violence seen in so many films.

Unfortunately I won't be going as I just saw this film on the plane - and it was very good - some unnecessarily bad language but what else is new with today's films, but a cute story and highlights how chefs get excited about cooking!

I would have loved to, but have company arriving that day. I have seen it and highly recommend it! Great movie to pair with dinner. Enjoy.
