Twin brothers Danny and Oxide Pang may have become lost to a string of fairly forgettable Hong Kong genre films in the past decade, but the one-two punch of their first features, Bangkok Dangerous and The Eye remain potent calling cards – so much so that both were later remade by Hollywood.
Pawalit Mongkolpisit plays a deaf-mute hit-man in Bangkok who falls for a tender shop-girl and begins to suffer the consequences of a life of murder. The directors’ verve and editing skills belie the picture’s low-budget independent origins, and serve up a refreshing reminder of the heady days of CGI-free gunplay.
