Raga of the month - Yaman/Yaman Kalyan -
I have been thinking about creating this meetup group for some time now. I talked to interested people and the response was very good. The idea is to get-togher with people who are genuinely interested in North Indian Classical Music (Hindustani) and enjoy listening and/or singing/performing. To begin with, the agenda for the first few meetups is to meet and listen to good recordings of senior artists/gurus in different Gharanas. Location - Maryland - Preferably someone's (HOST) residence basement, where someone has good CD player or equipment to play from computer and can divert the output to speakers. To beigin with we are meeting every 4 weeks, first Friday of each month from 8 - 10 PM. Raga of the month will be declared for the meetup and whoever has a good recording of that raga from a good artist, can bring it to the meet. We can pick and choose from the collections and can then listen to those as time permits. Eventually, once we have good group established with enough performers, we can start performing. Tea/coffee and light refreshments will be provided by host ... All Indian Classical Music lovers are welcomed!
