December ILSC Meetup

At this month's event, Frank Dale was supposed to give a presentation on customer interviews, how to conduct them, and the role they should play in the customer validation process. Unfortunately, something has come up at the last second, and Frank cannot attend the event. But do not worry, Frank will give the presentation on customer interviews at the January ILSC Meetup!

So, this month, Anthony Panozzo will give a presentation on business model canvasses, how to read them, and more importantly, how to create them. Anthony will also discuss Ash Maurya's Lean Startup Canvas.

After the presentation, there will be a practice session that involves taking an existing company and mapping its business model with the business model canvas. This exercise will help those in attendance get more comfortable with the business model canvas and how to use it properly.

Then, Max Yoder will share with us the story of Quipol, and the role lean startup methodology has played in researching, testing, and launching that startup.

Other Notes from the Event Organizers:

  • Last month's event took a little longer than usual, but we gathered your feedback, and we promise to conclude this month's event within 90 minutes.
  • Starting this month, we will be doing some testing of our own. We will start measuring our Net Promoter Score and our retention rate among individuals who have attended at least one ILSC meetup.
  • At every ILSC meetup from now on, the event organizers will have someone present on his or her company and the results of any testing he or she has done. So, we will be tracking who presents each month.
  • As always, free pizza and soft drinks will be provided.

While I wish more people had attended the event, I thought those who did attend were great. The presentation on the Business Model Canvas was informative and captivating, and I absolutely loved Max Yoder's discussion of the connections between his startup, Quipol, and lean startup methodology. The location, while cold, was large enough to accommodate everyone comfortably, the focus group exercises got everyone involved, and the discussions we had were phenomenal. I loved this event, and I cannot wait for the next event.

I liked the business model exercise and could see more of that. For next time you might mention the Steve Blank online class that's starting in February http://www.launchpad-class.org/

Great to hear about Quipol, and thanks to Anthony for walking through the Business Model Canvas concept -- made for a fun group exercise!
