hello friends and artists!

Grab your sketchbooks and pens...! Bring those ideas that have been bouncing around in your head this week! Last time we kicked some ideas around for future meet ups so we're not always awkwardly staring at each other:

Everyone agreed that dedicating the first part of the meetup to critiques and feedback might be helpful, so if you've got a piece that you feel is ready for feedback, bring it with you or post it in a discussion so we can all take a look at it in advance and put more thought into our feedback.

A word about feedback: We're all deeply sensitive tortured troubled artists, so it's always good to give feedback like "this is what I liked about it" or "this made me react in this way, was that your intention?" Feedback like "I hated it when" and "you should do it my way" is usually not helpful. If you are seeking feedback, maybe think of some specific questions to ask or specific things for us to pay attention to, like "I'm really concentrating on inking / anatomy / perspective / whatever" or "is the story really clear?"

We're going to try to bring a game / exercise to each meetup for anyone that wants to try. Last time we played a spectacular round of S#&$@Y KITTY and I have a new game / exercise to try for anyone that wants to. If you would rather work on your own thing, we totally enjoy your company so please come by anyway! This isn't silent study time, this is work in the company of other humans time. If you have a game / exercise you'd like to suggest, don't be shy!

Everyone also seemed open to doing some sketch days, so I'll schedule some of those in the coming weeks. Some possible locations include the Met, Grand Central, Central Park, Union Square. If you have a suggestion, we are all ears!

Please note that we moved the location to THINK COFFEE on Mercer btw 3rd and 4th Streets. We're TOTALLY open to suggestions for other locations, just consider the number of people who come, the noise level, the fact that you need space to draw, are they going to expect us to buy food, etc. For everyone who's been coming regularly, THANK YOU!! And newcomers - please feel free to come and join. Our group is diverse, energizing, and judgment-free.

Finally, we would like to humbly ask that you consider pitching in $1 or $2 (only if you come a second+ time - not for newcomers) - it helps leverage the monthly Meetup website payment.

thanks everyone! see you next time.

I'm a writer, looking for people who might be interested in drawing from my scripts, or otherwise collaborating. Right now I'm putting together an indie comic that'll be twenty-two pages or so, made up of three short stories written by me and illustrated by different artists. So far I have two artists, so for that first issue I only need one more; but I'm interested in finding as many people as I can to work with, to produce as much stuff as possible. I can't offer any remuneration, but I will pay to have the pieces printed as indie comix, and I will try to get them placed in stores, mailed to industry people, etc.

I'd love to work with artists of any style, with any variety of interests, who'd like to do illustrate stories of 8 pages or so.

As an example of my writing, here's the most recent short film that I wrote and directed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=...

    Thanks! My email is [masked]

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
