SUNDAY'S PAM GELLER EVENT AT GREAT NECK SYNAGOGUE HAS BEEN CANCELLED

Dear Members,

Earlier this evening the Great Neck Synagogue convened a meeting and issued the statement below that the event scheduled for Sunday was cancelled. After the weeks of incessant harrassment, threats and bullying, and the recent public announcement of a march on the synagogue lead by Rabbi Davidson with an alliance of Muslim and Leftist groups, the synagogue made the decision to cancel the event in order to avert the "legal liability and potential security exposure of our institution and it's member families."

The organizers of the event and counter-demonstration wish to thank all of you who responded to the call to arms. Organizers  are seeking another venue and if we can secure a viable place before tomorrow evening we will update everyone through our email contacts. This is a crushing blow to freedom of speech in America, that Pamela Geller's viewpoint cannot be heard at this synagogue, which like all the other synagogues when threatened, likewise caved. The thugs and bullies win, and we the decent, freedom-loving people in New York, we lose. My thanks and apologies go out to everyone who planned on attending.

STATEMENT FROM THE SYNAGOGUE:

"As the notoriety and media exposure of the planned program this Sunday have increased, so has the legal liability and potential security exposure of our institution and it's member families. In an era of heightened security concerns it is irresponsible to jeopardize the safety of those who call Great Neck Synagogue home, especially our children, even at the risk of diverting attention from a potentially important voice in the ongoing debate. Accordingly, the Great Neck Synagogue Men's Club will no longer be sponsoring the appearance of Pamela Geller this coming Sunday, and no event will be taking place in our facility."
