SESSION 1 - Basic and Intermediate

Hey Everyone,

I made a couple calls this morning and got more time for our club on Sunday. What i'm going to do with this time is separate the court more accordingly to skill level. We will now have 4 different courts and each court will be a different level.

4:00 pm-5:30 pm will be session 1 and the levels playing is "Basic" and "Intermediate"

6:00 pm-8:00 pm will be session II and this session is for "Competitive I" and "Competitive II".

I'm sure i will get a couple emails about this change so i want to clear it up to everyone now. This change is being made so that each player can enjoy games with members of similar skill levels. I don't want to discourage players from playing, so creating four courts with different levels will offer a game time to ALL our members.

PLEASE be conscience of what level you should be playing on, i'm going to be a little more strict now because i have noticed that players get bored or frustrated when they play with others that are not at a similar playing level. I don't want to call people out, so if your not sure what level you should be playing on then please ask me. (keep in mind that what ever level you start on, is not the level you need to stay on and anyone can get promoted to a new level ^_^)

Last new update is that any member that plays in session II that wants to play in session I can do both for $15. ( ends up being about 4 hrs, but if your up to it then go for it!)

I hope these changes help our club grow, also shoot me an email if you have any other ideas or concerns.

---------------------Basic rules for Game-day-----------------------

1. You have RSVP’ed

2. You have not been suspended for RSVP'íng and being a no-show (only if it happens a lot, so don't worry if it happened to you once.)

3. You pay entrance fee when you come in to play (Session I =$7, Session II = 10$)

Game Play:

Games go to 16 or 21 points (rally scoring), depending if there's a team switching in every match.

-----------------------------Session I -  ------------------------------

This level is for all new members, or members that just want to play on a recreational level. If you want to play in session II you should be upgraded by me OR recommended by a members in session II.

Basic: All members are welcomed, this court is for players that have not played in a long time and want to brush up on their skills. In order to play here you should know how to rotate on the court, bump, set and serve. PLEASE KNOW ALL THE RULES.

Intermediate: Know how to rotate on the court, bump, set and serve. You should also know when to pass to setter and be able to hold you positions on the court.

-------------------------Session II -------------------------------------

You need to be recommended by a current member in session II to start playing here. If not you need to start in session I and i can move you to the next session that same day.

-Competitive I: Know how to rotate on the court, block, bump, set and serve. You should also know when to pass to setter and be able to hold you positions on the court. There will be spiking and there will be dodging on this level. This is meant for members that have experience playing. RULE WILL BE MORE STRICT.

- Competitive II: This is the highest level that we offer, to play on this side it is recommended that you have experience from playing in school and teams. You should not be playing here unless you are very experienced.

----------------------------------Basic rules---------------------------

- Lose a point if you touch the net, cross the line on a serve, or carry on any play.

-If the ball touches the ceiling and lands on your side it is still in play, if it hits the ceiling and lands on opposing side, then it is out.

- If ball hits projector it is a redo.

-If ball touches net on serve it is fair game (Since we're playing on rally scoring)

-No excessive net touching for offense or defense (keep in mind that is you touch the net at all it should be technically an offense and the other team automatically gets the point.)

...I’ll add to this list for things that i missed

-----------------------Important Club Information---------------------

-If you arrive late to the game, you need to wait until the game in progress is finished to join your team. Inserting people in the middle of the game disrupts the flow of the game, and it's not fair to players that arrived on time.

- Max players for either side of the gym is 18, meaning 2 teams of six, and 1 team resting per category. I was told that we want to have breaks, so by having the extra team, each team can rest at least every two games (on a full day).

-DO NOT show up unless you have confirmed it through the meetup or are coming as a members plus 1.

- If you RSVP that you are going, please show up. I will suspend members that are repeat offenders

- Join if you are 17 years or older and understand and agree to the rules listed above.

- I don't mind people bringing in friends to play, the more people we have the more fun it will be. If you are constantly having the same 'plus 1' then please have them sign up for the group. This will help us be more organized during our meetups.

-If you are inviting more then 2 people, send me a message so i can approve it, I just want to make sure we don't overbook.

-Members that normally play in session II can play in both sessions for $15. This will be 4 hours of volleyball.

Individuals(s) distinct court assignments for Competitive 1 & Competitive 2 players worked out quite well and was "competitive". All attendees in my opinion were satisfied and had a
good time. For the most part all players had much playing time throughout both sessions. After 3 1/2 hours of constant vb it was a great workout for all :)

This was predictable....So far (if those attending are accurate) many of the competitive players "allowed" to attend BOTH competitive and "lesser" sessions will attend both to take advantage of 3 1/2 hours of play compared to the 1 1/2 hours of playtime allowed to the more "challenged" players...Personally I prefer to play with (mixed)competitive more knowledgeable players as they tend to "up" the games of the lesser players....

Problematic, is if the competitive players FURTHER "monopolize", decrease the beginner / intermediate playing time because of a third team on the beginner, intermediate court(s) and, or much player alternations on court(s)...

Until a couple of weeks pass under this new system I am merely speculating with the hope that I am wrong...

Nevertheless, I am familiar with some of the competitive players, consequently I admire their VB ability, athleticism, sportsmanship, competitive spirit, desire to constantly improve, and passion.

I agree with Stephen, how about we concentrate on what is important, having fun doing what we all love to do, playing volleyball and STOP complaining!

Great idea, Santiago. Definitely a good thing to try. I may attend both sessions if I have the time. It is fun to help players improve who are interested in getting better and like to ask questions and work on their skills.

Thanks for giving us an opportunity to play every week and constantly trying to improve our experience. It's come a long way in a short period of time! Please let me know if I can help out with anything.

Concerning; BASIC & INTERMEDIATE playing time is 1/2 hour LESS then INTERMEDIATE playing times. It's somewhat "discriminatory" against the basic & intermediate players even though the BASIC and INTERMEDIATE players are paying somewhat less to play

Not only do COMPETITIVE(s) have longer session times, they could extend their playing times by means of participating in all sessions. FAIR, EQUITABLE SOLUTION

Utilize 2 courts in both sessions. One net for COMPETITIVE 1, other court for BASIC. Utilize 2 courts in session 1 or session 2. One court for COMPETITIVE two, other court for INTERMEDIATE.

ALL LEVELS could have a somewhat fairer OPPORTUNITY to pay and play in BOTH sessions

    Basic - Intermediate / Intermediate / Basic
    Competitive 1 / Competitive 2 Competitive 2 / Competitive 1

Basic and Intermediate players comparable the two hour "standard" playing time as Competitive groups as a mean to LEARN and IMPROVE.

A "WIN-WIN" for BOTH the PLAYERS and added revenue for OWNER$HIP

All he is doing is doubling down on a change that he made a while back when he originally split the two courts into competitive and recreational. The group started to grow as soon as that change was that change is being multiplied through sessions rather than courts, which should allow the group to grow even more.

It's a great idea that deserves a chance before being shot down.
