PhotoShop vs Elements

with Chris Williams

Chris Williams is the guy to ask when it comes to PhotoShop (and) Elements!  We are very fortunate to have him as a member in our group.

With respect to our upcoming focus group on post-processing (see below), I asked Chris if he'd talk to us a little about "what exactly are the differences?"  and, "why would I want to purchase the very expensive PhotoShop, if Elements will do basicly the same...and the cost is much less?"  So, Chris graciously agreed to talk with us re both of these programs in an effort to help us sort some of this out.  He'll attempt to answer as many of your questions as possible, ...but realize that these are two very powerful programs and everything can not be answered in a one hour meeting.  Chris will project some pictures on the screen for us to see as examples.

Post-Processing Focus Group

Responding to the many requests over the past couple years regarding some type class on post-processing, at the last meeting I took a poll to see how many in that meeting would be interested in a Post-Processing Focus Group.

I am glad to say that out of 35 present, 17 would like PhotoShop9 would like Elements; and 15 would like Lightroom.  Other programs were listed, but only received a few acknowledgements.  We will put our immediate focus on PhotoShop.

If you were not at the last meeting and want your name on the list, please email me which program(s) to:  [masked].  Specify on a scale of 1 - 10, what you feel your skill level is (10 being high; 1 being I know "zero").  If you have some knowledge and are willing to help coach/teach, etc., please indicate that.  And, if you have PS on your computer, which version?

We are still taking requests for those who would like to be considered for this group...as we will start with a small group of members who know basically nothing.  They will meet frequently until comfortable and able to maneuver the various tabs and functions appropriately.  At that point, those with "some" knowledge will join this group.

Meetings will occur on a Tuesday evening at 6 or 6:30 pm...  Actual start date and other details have not been decided at this point.  An announcement will be sent to those accepted into the initial group prior to starting.  Others will be notified of their start time.

To take part in this focus group (and all focus groups),

you must be a currently paid member.

I received this link to a plug in for Photoshop Elements that will enable the use of curves. It's currently $39.95. As Chris has previously stated "It still won't let you move a buffalo". http://www.thepluginsite.com/pr...

VERY, VERY Good! Chris explains complicated processes in terms that are easy to understand. I'm hoping that Chris will do something like this again so we can learn from his talent. SUPERB!

6-6:15 is purely social; 6:15-6:30 I give a brief on things I think yu should be aware of: exhibits, photo shoots, etc. Chris will start around 6:30 or when I'm finished talking...

My plan is to attend but we are waiting for confirmation on services for my sister-n-law that passed away this week.

I've been asked by some...when will the program be over? Hard question to answer... The presentation starts at 6:30 pm...or close. It should run about an hour...to include Q/As. It all depends on the amount of discussion, quesitons, etc. So...my best guess would be 7:30 - 8 pm

    March 12, 2013

  • Donna

I can't make it until 7:30 due to work, is that to late what time do the meetings usually end.

    March 11, 2013

    • Carol T

There might be some Q/As around that time. Hard to say how long...as we try to think in terms of 1 hours...but sometimes they go over.

      March 11, 2013

  • Kristi S.

I will most likely be late because of work!

Not a problem. Remember, we will be in the "Down Under", the basement of the Prope (use side entrance that faces the Carriage House). I'll try to post some pictures later...before Thursday.
