PHOTO SHOOT: Turkey Run State Park; APRIL 28, 2013

Turkey Run State Park is home to some of the best "canyons" in Indiana. We'll start out leaving Indy VERY early to beat the crowds into the park. It's quite a popular tourist destination, so nice weekend days will result in big crowds. Our goal will be to wander and shoot Rocky Hollow- Falls Canyon Nature Preserve (within the park) in the early morning. There is sometimes a Non-denominational services are still conducted through the warmer months every Sunday at 10:00 a.m. at the historic LOG CHURCH. As the time approaches we will contact the Park Office to see if a service will be conducted on that day, and if they would mind any photography.

We'll determine the best place to meet for carpooling once we see who-all will be attending!

Some shots of the canyon areas can be seen here:

We plan on meeting @ the Cracker Barrel just West of 465 on 38th Street @ 6:00AM. We can carpool from there. Shooters will hitch a ride with me. I've got room for one more. Should take less then an hour to get to Turkey Run from the West side!

The bridge was closed not allowing us over to the other side although we managed to still have a good time and shoot off some good shots.

I plan to go (weather permitting), but not that early. Yes, I would love to see the sun come up (that will be awesome!) but I have IRT the night before and won't get home until very late.

I will probably leave the downtown apt (the Attic) around 8 am if anyone wants to join me at that time. I have never been to Turkey Run (no explanation!) and I am looking forward to a visit! I understand it is superbly nice park with breathtaking trails, other state park amenities, plus a lodge where I would like to have lunch if others want to join. These are the lodge's restaurant winter hours posted on their website:

The Turkey Run Restaurant is open to the public and seats 150. Dress casually, and enjoy a great family dining menu.

    Breakfast served 7:00 am - 10:00 am
    Lunch served 11:30 am - 2:00 pm
    Dinner served 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

I'm hoping to make this trip but i would want to be there 45 minutes before sunrise. If i can't get a ride with someone who wants to be there early then i will opt out of this trip

So just to be clear, you guys are planning on meeting at Turkey Run at 6AM to be ready to watch the sun come up. Right?

    April 21, 2013

    • Jeff

Amy, my thoughts were to leave the Indy area @ 6AM. We'll meet @ the park @ 7:00 AM. Sunrise in the canyons is somewhat irrelevant since the only sky you'll be able to see is straight up. I'll collect some specifics of who will meet where once we know just who is going and where they'll depart from.

Will there be a lot of hiking/climbing to get to our shooting spot for this? Or, will we be able to park sort of near to where we will want to shoot?

Yes the earlier the better, like 1 hour before sunrise. From past experiences if you dare :) the key is to be setup early for the shots especially around the rope bridge. It will take 30 minutes to get to your spot to shoot by then the daylight will start to creep in ( best time to catch some amazing photos but make sure you have a Tripod with you by 830 am people are starting to trickle in and by 10 its all over unless you want to use people in the shots. On a side note its time for a hanging this morning. Where is that ground hog AT.....

As much as I was looking forward to this, I have to back out. I am having surgery on my right shoulder 1 week prior.

For those who might be taking part in the November 1 "Historic Churches of Indianapolis and Indiana" exhibit, this could be a nice one to add!!!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
