FOCUS GROUP: Post-Processing (Photo Shop, plus)

  • Jul 24, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • The Attic (Focus Room)

Photoshop for Beginners

for everyone!!!

(See below for Eric's instructions for July 24 meeting:)

We reached 19 at our last meeting, but have dropped back to 13 for this meeting.  The temps should not be but around 70-75 (great!) we're moving back to the Focus Room.  In the future, if we see we hit near 20...especially if it's fairly warm, we'll make the move to the Down Under.

We're quickly becoming a post-processing group for all levels...but we still continue to learn basics.  We're going to be starting layers (several meetings of this as this is big, something we all need to know!)

Bring your laptops and be sure to download Eric's link:  ttp://

This picture is the one that is used in the tutorial we will be walking through together.

Also, I'll have copies of the lesson for the meeting.  I can't download the 17 page tutorial, but this is page 1, and there is more than just what you see on this page...Most members in this group are learning Photoshop basics (using various versions of PS on their computers). Some members of the group have Elements and a few "other".  Once this group gets their feet on the ground, soon..., other post-processing basics will be tackled.

The idea for this group is to get people "started" with Photoshop, providing them the ability to maneuver throughout the application and learn on their own.  Each program will be taught...slow and with a lot of patience.

Once the groups have gone thru their basic "training", the Focus Group will change course, and become a time for evaluating, critiquing, discussing various processes used while changing a picture's appearance...for the better (let's hope!) or to make it more artistic, etc.

Eric Scott Miller has very graciously offered to work with us to get us up and running. He will be posting on the Facebook IMUPC page site. Others in the club with any level of skill in Photoshop, Lightroom, and/or Elements are asked to le myself or Eric know so we can have a group of teachers/leaders.

A variety of media will be used: videos, handouts, tutorials. Everyone is expected to bring their own laptop. The Focus Room is set up with U-verse and will accomodate up to 20 max at 5 tables (4/table).

We meet every other Wednesday evening at 7 pm for 90 minutes in the Focus Room of the Attic.

Any questions, contact me: [masked]; or Eric (click on his picture in the Member section of this website).

In the meantime, go to the Facebook page (IMUPC) and check out: Photoshop Roadmap: and a variety of other tutorials being found to help and inspire.

I'm new to the Focus Group and this is my first time downloading an image to play with and my first class tomorrow. Do I have to sign up for an account from the site to get the image for free? It's asking me to use 7 credits for the 1570 x 2356 (3.7MP) image. First off...should I have to pay credits? I have not set up an account yet. Do I? And secondly, this size image was auto selected...which one do I actually want for our exercise? Thanks!

Jennie, I downloaded this and didn't have to pay any fee. I'm wondering if you're downloading the correct image.

Carol, it was the correct image. But, I must have needed fresh eyes because only this morning did I see the "download comp image" below the image. Now I'm ready for class! Thanks!

Hey, guys and gals!!! To prepare for this week's session on image manipulation with Photoshop layers, please download a comp copy of the following image:

This picture is the one that is used in the tutorial we will be walking through together.

See everyone Wednesday night in the "Down Under."

We can't always go by those "maps" that are computer generated. I wish we could. Sorry! The Propylaeum's address is: 1410 N. Delaware (Delaware is a one way street going north). The Propylaeum and Carriage House are on the same property. The Attic is the upstairs of the Carriage House (entry from 14th Street); the Down Under is the basement of the Propylaeum (entry from the southside of the house). Hope this helps!!! You can park anywhere! It's free!!!!!!

Also, when I clicked on directions to the Propylaeum it indicated the center of Indy .... the Soldiers and Sailors Monument.

Hi Carol. I can come early to help with set up. Is the Propylaeum the building behind the one we met in last time?
