Special Photo Printer
for Club Use
I'm in hopes that you will prioritize this meeting on your schedule and come to welcome Loren Elks, long time friend from Indy Media Artists. Loren will be taking an active role in the club and will be helping us develop objectives that will allow you to expand your creativeness by utilizing a variety of graphic media.
First on the agenda is a new photo printer (Canon PIXMA Pro 1) which Loren will demo by printing pictures for you to compare with the current Canon photo printer that we now have. It will print up to 13 x 19 and is the top of the line in the Canon family of photo printers. The manufacture has this to say:
The PIXMA PRO-1 Professional Inkjet Printer is the quintessential tool for the professional photographer that gives you the ability to print the images you captured with your Canon EOS Digital SLR, exactly as you envisioned it.
This printer weighs 80 lbs., so it is too heavy to carry around for "special events", but can be for events such as the November 1 exhibit and show that will take place at the President Benjamin Harrison home on November 1, our big yearly photo display. This year's theme is "Historic Churches In/Around Indianapolis and the State." At that event, outside frame dimensions must be a "minimum of 16x20/20x16” or “maximum of 20x24/24x20." (I'm in hopes that this will help you with your photos and encourage you to take part in this special event. Check out the top of the home page if you are not familiar).
For those who bring photos of their "historic churches" for the November 1 show, Loren will print three per person on 11x14 photo paper; and three of those will go home with 20x24 black mats and frames. He will also print three 13 x 19 photos for this event.
Loren and I have been talking about some of the ways he can get involved in our club and bring this additional graphic expertise in for us. Many of you, like myself, already know Loren thru Indy Media Artists and are aware of his abilities, his network of associates, and his contacts with a host of media vendors, including Adobe who makes Photoshop and all the Creative Cloud products. BUT, Loren's contacts don't stop there. He's a master with web-design and many, many more. I am overjoyed that Loren will not only be a part of us, but a big part! So, please come and welcome Loren to our family and let's see what this new printer can do...
Some of the areas I'm wanting us to develop are two more focus groups that will go hand in hand with the Post-Processing (Photoshop) FG we now have. For lack of a better name, I'm calling one of these new FGs "Photo-Graphics", then later around January another one "Photo-Art". In Photo-Graphics, we will explore a variety of graphic media available in the market that can make your photos go beyond the realms of Photoshop! Adobe has many, but there are many more out there! In Photo Art, we'll take what you create photographically from either/both of the other FGs and combine that with a variety of art media to compose a beautiful picture... I found this example below.
These new focus groups will not start right away, probably in January or close. I've been contacting a team from within our membership who will be meeting later in the year to design this program. If you have ideas/suggestions, please pass those on to myself, Eric Scott Miller, or Loren Elks.
And...one more huge plus with Loren coming on board... ADOBE! Loren will be helping us secure Adobe products and other great to have items, programs, etc. He will explain all this more at this meeting...what that means and how you can become a recipient!
Mark this date on your calendars now...
I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
