PHOTO SHOOT: Boxing

Boxing

(for a variety of reasons!)

Something a little different...

I've talked with the manager of this boxing club and they welcome us to come and take photos while folks are sweating it out!  And, they would like us to share some of our photos for their website.

Just reading the club's review, I'm interested in maybe joining...  This could be a 1) good way to get out your anger and/or frustrations 2) good way to loose weight 3) learn ways to protect yourself (in meetings or on the street!) 4) meet new friends!  5) a host of many more reasons!!!  I'm looking at all this a bit differently now...

Their website offers all means of healthy opportunities including even some healthy eating food ideas!

The times are 1 hour each class with a group at 9:30 am, 10:45 am, and a Kickboxing class at 12 noon.

Their website:  http://glendale-town-center.titleboxingclub.com/

Okay ... so I initially uploaded my photos but realized they were a bit large so I deleted them all and uploaded smaller versions. So if anyone left any comments, they got deleted too. Oops!

Can I jump in on this event at the last minute? Sounds like fun. And I'm also selfishly hoping I can learn a few things from those a bit more experienced than myself. I've photographed ice hockey and soccer before but that's about the limit to my sports/action photography. Any last minute tips on what to bring/how to shoot?

Carry you fastest lens (f2.8 or better) to capture action. Bring a normal range lens (eg. 24-70mm). Bring a flash (or two). Optionally, bring a tripod (not necessary, may come in handy). I haven't done this before either, so we can all learn together.

Thanks for the advice Sundaresh. I have a 35mm, 50mm and an 85mm. I'll bring my 16-85 too but that might not be fast enough. See you soon.

Those there were huffing and puffing away...and some will be used as "models" for us if we want on Sunday. The manager said she'd ask to see if there was anyone who did NOT want their picture taken...and she'd let us know.

I'm really looking forward to this as I think this is going to be something a little different. And, if any of you want to get in the ring and have your picture taken...will be an ok thing to do...

    Carol

I'll put the constant lights in the car...just in case we might want/can use them.

I stopped by the Boxing Club this afternoon to check everything out and talk with the person who would be there Sunday morning. Come to find out this is located in the Macy's (old LS Ayres) parking lot on the Northside of the building. I used to park there all the time when it was Ayres! Anyway...they have an all glass window on the N-side of the room. A large part of the huge room is filled with punching bags. Those there were wearing gloves and warming up. They'll be doing that Sunday too! (This kind of reminded me of a gym...but more geared toward boxing.) They even have a small ring and some big (I mean BIG!!!) gloves where either some of us (or we could get some of them) to pose for us (No real knock outs though!!!)
And, they had other high tech bicycles and a whole shopping area of boxing-looking types of clothes...gloves and all. Quite different from the typical gym!

Being indoors lighting will be dull. May want to set WB to incandescent or just awb then shoot in raw. You can change it then when you edit your photos. Good time for Prime lens

This should be good to get closeup. Would also be good shots for hdr as well. I'm saying yes i'll be there as long as nothing else pops up to interfere with it. I have a[masked] lens but being inside i most likely will shoot with the 50mm prime instead.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
