Indy Greek Fest
I've been waiting on this a long time! (I will definitely be there. Join me!!!)
Please plan to attend this very fun, very colorful, very authentic, very delicious food...event...the Greek Festival!
One of my coworkers is Greek and every year he and his family attend. He is in charge of the wine bar (all 3 days). This year the organizers added Sunday, but he warned me: some of the food items could go fast!
I love gyros and the honey laden desserts! But , that's not all they have! I went home with a couple small grocery bags of food the last time I was there. Every year, it seems the program grows a little bit bigger. It's been at least 2 years since I've been...and I was impressed 2 years ago! John (my co-worker) tells me that admission is "FREE" this year and that you can go on line and get some special pre-sale deals. Go to this link for more information where those can be obtained: http://indygreekfest.org/presale-coupon-books/
The organizers chose to move the popular festival back to the last of August this year so they wouldn't compete with other popular festivals (Penrod and the Pork Festival to name a few)!
When I was there a couple years ago, they were offering tours of their "new" church. It is breathtakingly beautiful, but was stark white inside. Well, that has all changed. John told me that they had some Italian iconologists (artists) brought in from Italy and painstakingly paint the ceiling. (John showed me a picture! Indeed, what a difference!!! It shows Jesus in the center looking down on the congregation! Very impressive!!!) He's going to give me the name of someone to contact to see about us getting a photo tour there for our November 1 show church theme. (To clarify: The photo tour I'll be seeking will not be on the same night as the Greek Festival...but a totally different day).
Would you like to learn to do the "Greek dance...opa!" Well, you can! Look at the schedule. Keep in mind that the adult dancers who perform, most have been doing that since they were babies!!! The children also perform...and, are pretty darn good! I love the costumes... They're authentic and colorful.
Let's make this a good time! A photo shoot if you wish...both! To me, a great blending...
PS: I've been attending this for over 40 years (This church is fairly new...but their previous church always had these...and I was a regular attendee! That goes way back to pre-married days!!!
