Camera Basics

We'll take this a step further.  Sundaresh Ramanathan, one of our advanced photographers, will be assisting with a program that he feels will be very beneficial.  He will be assisted by others from the intermediate and advanced group.  Of course, I'll be there to be sure you are grasping everything and that we're not moving to fast.  Remember, I'm just about where you are...somewhere between a beginner and an intermediate.  We want to learn this...and get it all down before we proceed into other things...because it is the basics that you must know first.

Sundaresh says, "The best class I have seen conducted by a very talented John
Gringo.  I think you'll like.  It starts from the very basic of what is photography and covers
lenses, filters, etc. Very well done as well.  Below is a copy of the class schedule Sundaresh had.  This will be modified, of course, for us...and Sundaresh will lead this and give his comments for discussion, etc. and we'll do hands on as we go, demos, etc.  (Note the dates are 2009, so, we will not follow the dates regimen.)

We had 3 new referrals for this group and they loved it! I wish those who couldn't make it could have as this was a great intro meeting. Sundaresh is a great and patient teacher. He set up a FB site just for this group and has already started giving them "fun" homework. I know we're going to learn a lot in this group!!! ...and, have lots of fun too!!!

Hi Kim, and all... This class was originally set up for those who feel they either know nothing (true beginners) or those who may know a little...but very uncomfortable being around others who seem to have it "all down". Yes, I would welcome you as I feel we all can always learn. My thoughts are, "who ever knows it all?" (in anything...)

My only caution is to not throw out what may seem like common words...but are "big" words to the beginner. They need to concentrate on BASIC information....and big words causes confusion. We'll get into a lot of all that in time.

Sundaresh has very graciously offered to assist with this as he has the CD we'll play and talk about in class. This will be a relatively slow moving class as we have holidays coming up that will affect November and December.

Hi Carol. I feel I never have it "all down" and there is always room for a little more photographic wisdom. However, my son came home from school unexpectedly this weekend, and he doesn't leave to go back until around 4. Since I don't get to see him much, I'm torn about coming today or staying until he leaves. But I've actually decided to stay until he leaves so I will not be able to attend.

Sundaresh ... How many of the scheduled topics will you be covering today?

That will not be a problem. Take the middle door when you get here and come up stairs. The room is on the right.
    See you tomorrow.

An additional note... If we have advanced members who want to attend this class...yes, you are welcomed with open arms! BUT I will caution you, that you will be there as "assistants only" and allow the students (the ones who are attending as newbies to this hobby) be the stars of the class.

If for any reason, one/any of the students comments to me that they feel they can't participate because of feeling intimidated or not comfortable having more advanced members in the class...then I may need to change the rules. I say this as that is exactly how I've felt on many occasions and I don't want any of them to be faced with that. We want them to be able to transition into this and start enjoying their cameras and getting out there and taking pictures along with everyone else!!!

I had originally thought about postponing this until January, but I think we can go forward this Sunday, October 27, to set the stage and get comfortable with what we'll be doing.

One thing for sure, we will not be moving forward fast as we need to let everyone absorb and ask their questions and more questions if necessary. Learning the basics so we can move forward is this class's purpose. So, if you feel you need a little more grounding, of course you are welcome...but remember...the class is really for those who want to get to first base, not those who are on first or second and want to get to 2nd or third...or come in for a home run...

I won't close the door on anyone.

Hi Carol. Was this class originally scheduled for tomorrow? Or am I mistaken about that ... that's a very good possibility. :-)

Even though I'm not exactly a beginner, I was thinking I may be able to pick up some good tips by starting at the very beginning, which is what this class sounds like it will be doing.
