PHOTO SHOOT: Eiteljorg Museum "Jingle Rails"

"JINGLE RAILS"

We've been going here now for 3 years (I believe...or maybe 4).  Every year, it seems, it becomes a little nicer and a little bigger than the year before.

If you love trains like I do, you will love this!  Two of my uncles worked on the B&O...one was an engineer and the other a conductor!  My grandfather also was an engineer on the B&O...so, loving trains kind of runs in my veins.  I'm a travel freak too, so all the scenes they have created for these models to skirt thru, over, and under...excites me a lot!

Within a few minutes, you can visit indian villages to large metropolices, tall mountain peaks to valleys, thru bridges and over the tops of mountains.  It all looks so real...even some of the famous lodges once built by the incredible Canadian Pacific RR.  Oh yes, I'll be there!  I love this kind of stuff and I want to see if there is anything new they've added this year!

And...once you're at the Eiteljorg...take in some of the wonderful art work!  One of the pictures on permanent display is by Howard Terpening!  I have a print of that work as he is my favorite artist and I love that picture, "Blessing from the Medicine Man".

Not to be missed while there, check out their totem pole!  My husband and I happened to be in Ketchican, Alaska, when that was being carved.  I asked the carver where it would be going when he finished it...and to my excitement, he said "Indianapolis, Indiana, at the Eiteljorg"...   So, that totem is very special to me too!  See why I love this museum???

This museum is all about the American Indian, their life and culture with art at its finest to depict their story.  I love it, it's a wonderful art museum showcasing some of the best art available to depict this grand culture!  If you go, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do...!!!

Due to the road and weather; plus the fact Bill Rigg's memorial is from 4-6 pm on Sunday, I will not be attending Jingle Rails on 12/15. I posted below that this does run until January 19. If you haven't been before, you should try to get over and see this marvel. I'll be going, but just not on the 19th.

Jim, It's scheduled (on the calendar) for Sunday, not Saturday. I, personally, will not be going even on Sunday because I don't want to allow my time to conflict with my being able to attend Bill Rigg's memorial, which is at 4 pm. I decided to not move this date as some folks, especially those who didn't know Bill, may decide to go on Sunday.
