FOCUS GROUP: Beginner's Photo Shop

Photoshop for Beginners

Eventually, this will become a Focus Group for all Post-Processing. When a poll was taken several months ago, Photoshop, Lightroom, and Elements...were the top three requested.

Most members in this group are learning Photoshop basics (using various versions of PS on their computers). Some members of the group have Elements and a few "other".  Once this group gets their feet on the ground, soon..., other post-processing basics will be tackled.

The idea for this group is to get people "started" with Photoshop, providing them the ability to maneuver throughout the application and learn on their own.  Each program will be taught...slow and with a lot of patience.

Once the groups have gone thru their basic "training", the Focus Group will change course, and become a time for evaluating, critiquing, discussing various processes used while changing a picture's appearance...for the better (let's hope!) or to make it more artistic, etc.

Eric Scott Miller has very graciously offered to work with us to get us up and running. He will be posting on the Facebook IMUPC page site. Others in the club with any level of skill in Photoshop, Lightroom, and/or Elements are asked to le myself or Eric know so we can have a group of teachers/leaders.

A variety of media will be used: videos, handouts, tutorials. Everyone is expected to bring their own laptop. The Focus Room is set up with U-verse and will accomodate up to 20 max at 5 tables (4/table).

We meet every other Wednesday evening at 7 pm for 90 minutes in the Focus Room of the Attic.

Any questions, contact me: [masked]; or Eric (click on his picture in the Member section of this website).

In the meantime, go to the Facebook page (IMUPC) and check out: Photoshop Roadmap: and a variety of other tutorials being found to help and inspire.

OK, folks, my apologies for letting things slip up from last month's session. Last month, we looked at Scott Kelby's five minute portrait retouching checklist (which will be posted to the files section here momentarily). And I issued a challenge: To take a portrait image you've taken and go through the retouching steps. Then, submit the before and after images by this Saturday (Dec. 6) in order to have a chance to win Kelby's portrait retouching book.

Well, the contest is still on!!! Those of you who were unable to make it last month can still download the handout and submit your images. (Please email them to me at [masked])

Monday night we will look at everyone's images, offer constructive critiques, and I will reveal the winning retouch.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
