The 101st Annual "St. Benno Fest"
Sun King Brewery and Nat'l Bank of Indpls are partnering w the Athenaeum on the time-honored German tradition to celebrate the arrival of spring beers.
St. Benno, accompanied by his goat, Herr Bock, will tap the keg with the ceremonial chugging of two beers. Germans began brewing bock beer in Einbeck in the 14th Century. People in Munich pronounced Einbeck as "ein Bock," which means "billy goat."
"St. Benno Fest is a lively celebration of spring, beer, and German music." The festival will feature two of Sun King's Bock beers: a Dominator Doppelbock and a Maibock. Bock-style beers originated in Einbeck, Germany. The tradition of Maibock beers is rooted in the May Day celebrations and brewing a new style of beer to commemorate spring.
From 7 pm , the bock flows, accompanied by dancing to the music of the Chardon Polka Band. Yodeling contests will open at 9 pm. Food will be available a la carte from the Rathskeller. The event benefits the care and maintenance of the historic Athenaeum, built in 1893 and listed in the National register of Historic Places.
This event is one of the five events we need to attend to maintain free meeting and parking space at the Athenaeum. Photos (candid shots, about 10 or so from each of you who attend) need to be turned into me within about 2-3 weeks after the event.
I will provide you with a lanyard that you will need for this event. It will identify you as an Athenaeum photographer.
There is no cost to you for attending...even the beer (as long as you drink moderately)!
HINT: When taking pictures...take candid shots of the of activities taking place at the event, more so than of people enjoying the event, although a few of those are acceptable. We want to show the types of activities that take place at the events the Athenaeum hosts and what happens so they can tell others who may consider coming net year.
(All pictures are used in the future...for future events Many of you saw the 3 pictures of ours that were used on their 2013 Annual Report that will go out to all the members and shareholders of the Athenaeum...all over the world!.)
People sitting at a table having a good time is nice, but it doesn't tell us much about the event itself. I think they may have an actual live goat coming in for this. If so...a picture of the goat "billy"...and St. Benno (I believe there will be someone dressed as such...), the band...I'm sure in German attire, dancing...and most certainly "pouring" of the beers!
