In remembrance of PFC Lawrence Lee Allen - U.S. Army - WWII - 96th Infantry - 383rd K Company. My father (Lester Brown) and his friend were born in a small Southern Indiana farming community. In August of 1944 they both quit high school and enlisted in the army their senior year. The two of them completed basic training and were shipped together to the Pacific conflict where they helped mop up after the invasion of Leyte. My Dad and his friend were then shipped to Okinawa and arrived on the beach head Easter morning, 1945. During the first week on Okinawa, my father was wounded and his friend was killed on April 4, 1945. My father travels to Southern Indiana the week of Memorial Day, to visit and place a small American Flag and flowers on the grave of his fallen friend. God Bless all who serve our country.

What little town Brad? I'm from Seymour...a small town. It's great that you honor your father, and he honors his fiend!

Both of my parents are from Paoli. I had an aunt and uncle that lived in Seymour. Howard and Irene Meyers.

I have been thinking about this photo and I have decided to withdrawal it from the contest. I obviously did not take the black and white photo of my father and his friend. I merely wanted to post it as a tribute to my father who is still with us and his friend who died in WWII. I will enter another photo if there are no objections.

I realized that you hadn't taken the black and white photo. I simply see it as a reference for your photo. It's up to you Brad, leave it or enter a new one. Let me know so I can post a message, not to vote for this one.
