We will ride from Broad Ripple to Downtown to watch the Regions Bank Fireworks. This will be a bronze ride and we will try to stay as a group for the ride. We will take the canal towpath and then catch the White River Greenway to Downtown. After the fireworks we will take the same route back to Broad Ripple.
Since we will be riding back in the dark lights are required to do the ride. Also, everyone must have a helmet to ride. Mountain bike may be better for this ride since we are taking the towpath which is a crushed limestone trail and some spots on the trail could be a little rough,
Would anyone be interested in a earlier departure and riding down to Fountain Square to catch the Art of July Parade? Let me know and I will adjust the start time for the ride. Here is a description of the event,
The event starts out with a parade traveling through Fountain Square and Fletcher place. The parade is a one-of-a-kind platform for presenting artwork in the public sphere and anyone is invited to participate. Our event will showcase contemporary artworks of all sizes and shapes that address parades, street pageantry and community celebration The parade is scheduled for Saturday, July 4th 2009 at 6:00pm. After the parade is finished, stay to enjoy some live music and neighborhood fun for the whole family all leading up to the grand finale of the downtown Indianapolis Fireworks display.
Ryan, I think you need good light. The canal towpath does not have any lights. Check out your local bike shop and most lights they would have should be OK. We will ride as a group so other will have lights also. Make sure you pick up a tail light as well.
The Art of July Parade starts at 6:00PM. Has anyone shown interest in this. It sounds interesting to me. With that said what time would the ride need to start to get to Fountian Square by 5:30PM?
Paul, There was not much interest in the Fountain Square Parade so I think we will leave at 7:00 PM and ride sown to watch the fireworks. I plan on riding to the American Legions Mall in front of the Library and watching the fireworks from there.
80% chance of thunderstorms starting at 7pm. If that doesn't improve, I might be bailing on this one.
It looks like the rain is not going to stop so I'm going to cancel the ride. Sorry everyone maybe next time.
Good Call Jim, I wonder if they will even be having the fireworks? Disappointing though.

I've never done a night ride before. What type of lights will I need?
