I have an M.A. in English from IU. Someone pays me, albeit very little, to teach writing and critical thinking. I created Deflowered Memoirs, an online collection of mostly funny cherry poppin' tales written by women and then adapted for live performance. The project was well-received in LA and garnered some national attention including a feature in BUST magazine. I'm currently revising the live script and working to bring a new and improved version to university stages. I'm also co-writing a screenplay based on the life of Frances Perkins, an FDR cabinet member and the first woman to achieve such status. I'm slowly working to compile, revise, and further compose a series of poems related to my decade plus of LA living. Finally, I'm a songwriter and guitar player. I've performed in very short shorts and electrical tape...but that was over a decade ago. I stick to jeans and t-shirts these days.
Joan Didion, Patti Smith, Sherman Alexie, Anne Sexton, Jeffrey Eugenides, John Steinbeck, Mark Twain, Charles Bukowski, Toni Morrison, Dostoevsky, David Sedaris, Allan Ginsberg...and on and on and on.
Since I moved (back) to Indiana in Jan. 2013, my life has been consumed with stabilizing the wave of change...i.e. new job, new apartment, new husband and new job for him, supporting him as he adjusts to a TOTALLY new place, and reconnecting with old friends. Creatively, everything has slowed to a trickle. So, I'm looking for some inspirational dynamite to help me get back to work. Plus, I want to meet some new people.
Hi, I'm Abby. I like cats. I used to live in Indiana. Then I lived in Los Angeles. Now I live in Indiana again.
