Infracoders September 2013 Meetup

  • Sep 3, 2013 · 6:00 PM

Please join us to talk about infrastructure as code. Envato have kindly offered to host the September meetup and will supply food and beverages.

David Goodlad (@dgoodlad) - Infrastructure is Secondary

The first step many people take when starting to measure and monitor their systems is to track and alert on data like "system load" and "network throughput". While those things are interesting, they should only be interesting in the context of higher-level information. Measuring how these things affect your users, your customers, should be your real goal, and is the subject of this discussion.

Luke Daley (@ldaleyGradle - builds as code

One of Gradle's value propositions is that it allows you to approach the building of your software as another software endeavour. That is, it allows you to easily and naturally write code to control how your software builds. This talk will focus on the parts of Gradle that support this goal and some built in bits for integrating with the real world.

Please contact Matt (@geekle) or David (@dlutzy) if you'd like to talk.

As commented yesterday, we are organizing a Web Performance Optimization contest that will be held at REA Offices at the beginning of October. The idea is to get teams of four people that will be presented with an instance of a website and they will have to try to improve the performance. There will be challenges in different areas: frontend, backend, os, network, etc...

If you are interested in participating, get in contact with me or with David Lutz.

Spanish class switched from Monday to Tuesdays, so I can't make this one. Have fun all, David's talk sounds good - am quite keen on the IT <--> business metrics alignment thing so will be sorry to miss that one.
