San Gabriel Canyon to the Santa Fe Dam Recreational Area

This is a great ride for newer riders looking for a ‘step up’ or if you're looking to avoid the busy street... this ride is a nice length,speed and casual. An 18 mile ride from Encanto Park, down the Santa Fe flood control basin, across the Santa Fe Dam and back up through the Gabriel canyon along the river to Encanto Park. A scenic ride with interesting wildlife and a newly paved bike trail.

Emphasis: exercise, saddle time, training, staying fit

Levels: All levels are welcomed

Type of bike: road bike or hybrid

Ride Difficulty Rating: Easy to Moderate: 17-18 miles in length, 10-15 mph, moderate climbing - less than 1000 ft – rolling hills and flat paved road. Ride is less than 2 hours.

How to get there: Meeting at Encanto Park(parking lot) From the 210: North on Irwindale, left on 66, right on Encanto Parkway, park is on the left. My cell phone munber is [masked] Kris

What to bring: All IEWC are required to wear helmets. Bring a water bottle. (recommended--- extra inner tube, front and rear lights)

Cancellation: Rain/inclement weather will cancel this ride(24 hour notice) If host cannot attend another will be asked or 24 hour notice given.

Safety First: Bicyclists on public streets have the same rights and responsibilities as automobile and motorcycle drivers. California Bicycle Laws indicate that bicyclists:

•Must obey all traffic signals and stop signs.
•Must ride in the same direction as other traffic, not against it.
•Shall ride as near to the right curb or edge of the roadway as practical– not on the sidewalk.
•May legally move left to turn left, to pass a parked or moving vehicle, bicycle, animal, make a turn or avoid debris and other hazards.
•Should ride single file on a busy or narrow street.
•Must make left and right turns in the same way that drivers do, using the same turn lanes.
•Must signal all their intentions to motorists and bicyclists near them.
All IEWC Riders are expected follow these traffic laws to ensure a safe and enjoyable ride. IEWC riders are required to wear a helmet and shoes on all rides and are encouraged to carry identification and emergency contact information in their bike pack or on their person.
