When people leave religion, many feel that they have nothing to turn to when tragedy strikes. They may feel alone and unsupported.
We intend to foster an atmosphere of love and support for one another in our quest to build a more caring community.
The one thing religion does get right is that there is always someone available to help through problems and hard times. It is apparent that this is something that ALL humans need.
Thus far, the atheist community as a whole has been very good at fostering intellectual conversation and getting the community to socialize. What we need more of is a tighter, closer connection among atheists to truly make this a community.
The support group is a place for atheists to come and talk about whatever life issues they may be facing. It could be about their struggles in leaving religion, it could be a place for support during a time of depression, or even just to talk about daily life stressed that are overwhelming. And we are absolutely here for our fellow atheists that are experiencing grief over a loved one who has died. There is not nearly enough help for non-believers during times of mourning and loss, and this is something that desperately needs to change.
Even if you are not experiencing any difficult times right now, please feel free to join us anyway to support other members of the community that need the extra care.
