Networking & Breakout Sessions

Thanks so much to everyone who came out for our first meeting in July! I'm so excited for our next meeting, which will be held on Tuesday, August 26th from 5:30-6:30pm at Flywheel Co-work in Winston-Salem.

Also, a big thank you to everyone who voiced their suggestions on what they'd like to see at our future meetings. For our second meeting, we'll be keeping with the socialization and networking factor, but also add in some Breakout Sessions, as were suggested by the group.

We'll have an opportunity for 5-6 breakout sessions, which will be held in the IQ Court. In the next few weeks, once you've RSVPed, please leave a comment, either suggesting a Breakout Topic, or offering your services to host the Breakout Session. We'll select up to six of the most popular ideas.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again in a few weeks!

Another great meeting with the group! I believe there's always a solid take-away for everyone! I will be traveling over the next 2-3 months, so I will miss the next few meetings. Hope to see some good information posted here from group members so I can keep informed of what's happened over the next couple of meetings. Thanks everyone and best of luck!

I so wish I would be able to attend, but I have to go to school tonight. I can use all the help I'm doing my first fundraiser for a non-profit to help with those with mental health challenges. GreenTree Peer Center. I wish I can pick your brains!!! I need to clone myself!!!

Monika, please contact me. I will be happy to help you find funding. The Library has a wonderful database from the Foundation Center in New York called Foundation Directory Online. You can search it by criteria to find grant sources. I am at the Central Library on the second floor. [masked]

The breakout on Sales process was spirited with really good questions from both Richard Starets and Ryan Tvenge.

Thanks again, Steve, for leading this breakout. I learned a lot about the sales process. My main takeaway was that when in the sales process, make sure the potential client finds your value proposition, rather than just telling them what it is. Then you know they are really onboard with you.

Great session tonight. Allan Younger in our breakout had to leave before the debrief and we ran out of time -- but wanted to let everyone know that he is leading a session on Business Pitches THIS Thursday at Forsyth Tech's SBC (directly across the "patio" from Flywheel) from 12-1:30 pm. Requires registration -- the SBC phone number is[masked] or I'm sure you can message Allan here for all the details.

How about an Open Source breakout session? I don't have anything prepared specifically, but open to any specific suggestions. Also, if anybody is interested, I'll be presenting on Python on Windows, at WFU tonight (just search meetup).

We're very excited to see everyone for our second Meetup tomorrow evening! It looks like we've had three offers to host breakout sessions:
-Monica Doss - Lightning Round procedures
-Dale Wagstaff - Networking techniques for start-ups
-Chad Bomar - Legal advice for start-ups Please let me know if you would like to host a breakout session yourself, or know someone who would like to do it. See you all tomorrow!

I'd be happy to facilitate a breakout session about Lightening Round activities at future meetups, including providing prep activities.

  • Dale A. W.

I would be happy to facilitate a discussion concerning effective networking techniques and resources for start-ups that actually work. I also would recommend Chad Bomar, local attorney, who could provide an excellent overview of legal matters pertaining to start-up companies.

Jennifer, the first Meetup at Flywheel was great! We have a good mix of seasoned entrepreneurs and first timers. I'd like to suggest some topics for the Breakout sessions at the next meeting: 1. Networking - connecting to resources and opportunities for start-ups; 2. Legal matters for start-ups; 3. Prepping for Lightning Round - best practices for pitching your ideas to investors.
