There’s a great magazine called Make, http://www.makezine.c..., it’s all about D.I.Y. projects, hacks, and inventions.
From Make, comes Maker Faire, which recently held events in Austin, Texas, San Mateo, California and Newcastle, England; and has now set up in Providence, RI from Sept. 6-19th. The Faire culminates on the 19th and coincides with Providence’s unique Waterfire.
From the Maker Faire Rhode Island website http://www.makerfaire...
The site is short a schedule. I found the following at Wired, in the Geek Dad column:
September 19, 11am-10pm: Maker Faire RI at WaterFire, the plaza at the intersection of Westminster St and Weybosset St, in front of the Turks Head building, downtown Providence, RI 02903. Makers, inventors and artists will showcase their creations, plus art, crafts, food and entertainment. The Waterfire portion of the event runs from sunset (6:10pm) until 12:30am.
I’m suggesting parking at the Providence Place Mall, it’s fairly cheap, and the faire is about a ten minute walk from the mall. (If anyone knows a better place to park, please, let me know.)
Please, RSVP early and indicate if you’re interested in carpooling.
I’ll be at the Francis St. entrance to the Providence Place Mall, next to Uno’s pizza at 11:30am, and we’ll walk to the faire from there.
For those who want to come later, I’ll e-mail everyone a contact cell number, so you can meetup with the rest of us.
This is a link to a map of the area.
I will have to meet up a little later in the day. I won't get into Providence until 1:30pm. So, if you are still around then I'll have to call and find out where you are and meet up with the group.
