A Woman's Place...

Can women have it all?

“We hold ourselves back in ways both big and small, by lacking self-confidence, by not raising our hands, and by pulling back when we should be leaning in,” she writes, and the result is that “men still run the world.” -Sheryl Sandberg

Ms. Sandberg is a successful executive, currently chief operating officer of Facebook. Sheryl Sandberg has a new book, "Lean In" exploring her views and experience on  women and  the workplace

When dealing with barriers and gender discrimination in the workplace, what ideas of Sandberg's make sense?   What ideas  of her's do you question?

. Let's discuss her ideas and the issues of women and careers over brunch.

Too many things going on today, so I'll give my place to the waitlist.

Love to join you all but I am preparing for an important meeting on Monday so I'm ending up cancelling everything this weekend. I look forward to seeing everyone another time.

    very interesting topic!
Last year I read an article that said there are 2 different groups of feminists each with a different approach to feminism:
--one group is focused on complete equality with men, so they are very outwardly focused
--the second is focused on complete freedom to express themselves based on their own nature; they are very inwardly focused in trying to discover their real selves in order to give it expression while removing forces that prevent that from happening

And of course I like the second group.

How do you change your wait list status to YES? I missed the opening
by four minutes! And it is 1:09 AM!

In the years after Betty Friedan's book, The Feminine Mystique, I was
energized toward a big career in teaching or philosophy. Then the baby
was in my arms. And I stayed with the baby .... I have never regretted it. BUT if I could choose my gender the next time around, this lady
would come back as a man, with all that that means. You cannot do
both in equal measure. You throw a load of wash in at 1:00 am, and you get up at 5:00 to iron shirts, make breakfast, and finish homework. Perhaps if you had a saint for a husband. Maybe if your
kids were perfect. If these two dogs were not part of the family.
If your Mom did not get sick. If you didn't have to work 3 jobs.

I see that marriages are improving now. There is more sharing of
the workload. But relationships are always uneven. In this way or
that. And why divorce and do it again? One guy's black sock on the
floor is the same as another's.
