An Unquiet Mind

What is it like to have manic-depression? Dr. Jamison not only has studied the condition extensively, she has had to deal with it herself. Since a young adult she has suffered both manic episodes, and periods of depression.

Join us for a discussion of Jamison's scientific career and her complex personal journey dealing with manic-depression.

Wikipedia: "has been named one of the "Best Doctors in the United States" and was chosen by Time as a "Hero of Medicine."[1] She was also chosen as one of the five individuals for the public television series "Great Minds of Medicine."

I appreciate the earnestness of all who participated. A spirit of seeking understanding was constant and close. This was a great introduction to Inquisitive Minds -- my first Meetup with all of you.

This was a very good discussion and I hope it was as valuable for those who do not suffer from bipolar disorder as it was for me.
And thank you Marty for your understanding.

Good discussion! Thank you to all who shared such personal stories. I think along with stories about Jamison, they gave a feel for how difficult it can be to live with bipolar. I hope some day there is a cure.

i've been bipolar all my life and I've been planning to go to this meeting since it was first scheduled. I would really appreciate if you could make an exception for this meeting

Dr. Jamison mentions this quote in discussing great examples of teachers... "[Richard] Feynman depressed is just a little more cheerful then any other person when he is exuberant." -Hans Bethe

It's wonderful there is so much interest in the group!
Is it possible to create a separate group for those on the waiting list. Perhaps meet at the same time bu a different location?

Thank you. Good to know. I do think, though, that you're tapping into some topics that draw a lot of attention and would benefit from more than just one host. Right now there are 20 people signed up and 27 on the waiting list. That's quite impressive and quite an opportunity for growth within your group.

Hi Jacquie. We sometimes have a repeat event at a later date for a discussion that has strong interest. I'll consider that with this topic.

I'm not quite sure what happened but I signed up for this months ago. I'll definitely be coming.
