Is Warren Buffett paying his fair share?

Diesel Cafe (map)

So how much does Buffett pay in federal taxes?

Too much? Too little?

What should determine what is a fair amount to pay? Should wages and investment be taxed differently?

To what extent should goals beyond just funding the cost of gov't be part of tax policy?  Is it ok to add taxes to bad things, to punish or discourage some sins in our fellow man?  Maybe a high tax on energy to save the planet?  ;-)

Should we add taxes to imported goods to help domestic companies? Or have higher taxes on corporations that some employees overseas?  Or should taxes really just be raised with the goal to fund the cost of gov't?

Was Daniel Webster right about the power to tax?

Join us for a fun moderated discussion of fairness and funding....

After the formal meetup finishes, we'll go out to Orleans for drinks and to socialize.

"The 400 of us pay a lower part of our income in taxes than our receptionists do, or our cleaning ladies, for that matter. If you're in the luckiest 1 per cent of humanity, you owe it to the rest of humanity to think about the other 99 per cent." -Warren Buffett

What do you think the odds will send in that check?

"He should just write a check and shut up. Really. And just contribute. I'm tired of hearing about it. If he wants to give the government more money, he's got the ability to write a check. Go ahead and write it," Gov. Chris Christie, on CNN

I say kill them all and liquidate all if their assets! And by all, I mean everyone in the world save for myself. Because I'm just that important.

(But not really. While I agree that self-righteousness is rather annoying, I give Mr B SUPER props for coming out and saying this. I would simply like him to put his money where his mouth is. And I fully expect that to occur.)

(Also, I kinda plan on showing up even though I've been waitlisted. Because I love a good conversation! :D )

I'm so sorry Evan and I missed this without changing our RSVPs. We didn't get email reminders, and forgot. Hopefully, there were plenty of people there, and our mistake didn't mean that there were empty seats that could have been filled by waiting list people. :( Not sure why the system didn't send an email reminder -- it always has in the past. Apologies again.
