Fermi's Paradox: "Where are they?"

With billions of stars in our galaxy at least as old as our sun, and with many having the potential for a earth like planets, where are the aliens?

"Where are they?"

Are we the only intelligent life in our galaxy?  Why have we not had any contact with life beyond earth?   Why have we not found any evidence of intelligent life beyond earth?

Are we alone in our galaxy?

From Wikipedia:

"The apparent size and age of the universe suggest that many technologically advanced extraterrestrial civilizations ought to exist.
However, this hypothesis seems inconsistent with the lack of observational evidence to support it."

Let's explore physicists Enrico Fermi's paradox, the Drake equation, organizing our ignorance, Dyson spheres, super earths, and questions of the search for intelligent life.

The minds that are most likely to consider this paradox are also the most likely to label the "observational evidence" that would support it as "unscientific". Maybe life is out there but we're too stubborn for them to bother with. ;) Looking forward to being stubborn with all of you.

Jim (and everyone), I am scheduled to attend the Philosophy Meet Up that night, too; it was rescheduled from last night because of the lockdown. As much as I love this talk's topic--and Physics and Cosmology in general--I am going to bow out and allow someone on the wait list to nab the spot. I hope you have fun. Now that astronomers have "discovered" a couple more Goldilocks planets, you guys should plan a trip! :^)
