CONNECT! Retail Talk - Adapting to the New Reality

The landscape for retail is changing - is there a future for the charming shops on main street and beyond? Are shoppers letting their fingers do the walking on-line or might they still enjoy tactile browsing in their local shops?

Partnering with Downtown Squamish Business Improvement Association Inside Edge continues to explore the role of knowledge-based industry and technology, this time with a focus on the state of the retail industry, the challenges, the opportunities and its potential in Squamish and beyond. Whether you are a retailer, business, consumer or community advocate you will find this Connect thought-provoking and informative.

Retail Talk will take a look at new technologies, finance, human relations, merchandising, marketing and operations all of which are critical areas for any retailer. A panel of experts will help us navigate through the maze of current, past and potential future changing consumer expectations and tools for success.

WE WELCOME RETAILERS FROM THROUGHOUT THE CORRIDOR TO COME AND JOIN US - COME SHARE YOUR SUCCESSES AND CHALLENGES!

Panel includes:

As a follow up to this event, I have lived in Banff for over 20 years and operated my video production company from there since 1998. I've learned a lot about retail and tourism whis is where I see huge potential in Squamish. I managed a busy retail gift store in Banff for 4 years and the two things I learned, is that there's no easy way to make money, and change is constant. Squamish is going through a transformation and if we are strategic and open about change, we can be on the crest of revitalizing the core in amazing ways. That will take imagination, vision, and hard work. Squamish has an amazingly quaint downtown and huge waterfront potential. I could go on for hours about what I see with my outsider vision. I live here now and I'm excited to use my experience in a world class destination pro/ and con and share it with my community.

I am sorry I missed this meeting last night! I had an emergency come up at the last minute. I'd love to learn more about what was talked about. Will you have minutes posted somewhere? I want to make the next one for sure I'll keep checking in. I heard mountain FM talking about it. This kind of thing is great for Squamish.

I'm a relatively new resident to Squamish. I am a producer from a busy resort town called Banff. I have seen the retail scene change there and I myself have created an online store for extra business. I think having a strong physical retail presence combined with a strong online business is the way to go moving forward with the complex and ever changing consumer choices. I look forward to the meeting on the 11th.

Fantastic that you can join us Les. It's great to get input and experiences from people from other markets along with the discussion about on-line marketing and selling.
