City secrets photowalk - Part 2

  • May 31, 2014 · 1:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Part 2 of our exploration of the lesser-known parts of the City of London. We will start at The Lakeside Terrace at The Barbican (which was the end point for Part 1) and the walk will include Bunhill Fields, some city alleyways and courtyards and the beautiful St Dunstan's in The East.

The rough plan is:

1pm meet on the Lakeside Terrace at Barbican - time to explore if people want to

1.45 / 2pm - set off on the route to Whitecross Street (street art) and Bunhill Fields (old burial ground)

After Bunhill Fields, there is an opportunity to visit the John Wesley house and museum (he founded the Methodist church) - entry is free (donations are welcome though)

Through the streets of the city, exploring some alleyways, courtyards and passages

Opportunity to take in the view of St Paul's from the top of the One New Change shopping centre (if people want to do this) (also free of charge)

Walk past Cannon Street, the London Stone and the Monument (the more energetic can climb this - entry fee applies) and on to St Dunstan's in the East.

Matt (@mattdelmar) is kindly designing a route map for the day so you won't get lost!

Hello! What does it mean I'm in waiting list? can't I come?

    May 29, 2014

    • Keith Houghton LRPS (.

I've had to put a limit on the numbers - 90 people going round some very narrow streets in the City is going to be very difficult to manage. There are always some people who change their RSVP and if this happens, those on the waiting list will get an email from meetup telling them that their RSVP has been updated to yes. Sorry about this but we need to keep the numbers manageable for this meetup.

Quick question: are we going to spend some time at the Barbican or is it just the meeting point? Many thanks :)

    May 26, 2014

    • Keith Houghton LRPS (.

Well, having said that, Barbican and the area is great for photo opportunities so we can certainly take some time to take pictures around there!

The London monument is well worth the £4 admission fee , the views are excellent although the asent and descent is really strenuous

Yeah the barbican estate of course , it's a rather large development last time I went there. My error in the asking of the question , where in the barbican such as the conservatory , Forbisher cresent , lakeside terrace for instance as by just saying the barbican is rather vague given the size and the complexity surrounding nativagting the estate. Can't wait for the meet up !

Unfortunately the location setting on Meetup is a bit limited! But I've just updated the text to say we will start at the Lakeside Terrace
