Putting on the roof

  • September 26, 2013 · 12:00 PM

Join us for several days - or come out to visit for a few hours to see what we're doing!  We're building an earthbag cottage with a living roof.  The exact design is flexible - so part of the fun will be collaborating on the details as we work.  Bring water and food to share.  This Meetup is as much about building intentional community as it is about building a cottage.

See the photos section to see how much we've accomplished so far.

Other projects you may choose to help with:

- Clearing the road and filling holes with gravel.

- The hugelkultur (mound garden).

- Cutting, splitting, and storing firewood.

- Improving the placement and effectiveness of rainbarrels (we have quite a few).

- Organizing the kitchen area.

- Setting up a shower/bath area.

- Soaking up sunlight, restoring one another's souls, inspiring others to participate in the creation of a more beautiful world.

Please bring food to share and water.

Jeffrey, I'm bummed we didn't get to meet also. As soon as the weather clears though, I'm going back out.

Sorry, I won't be able to come out this week. I have something that has to be done tomorrow. Hope it will work out next time.

For those who come out to work on the cottage for the first time, l would like to explain my philosophy of work - which I label as non-directed work. Most of us were raised in an environment where we were told what to do - either by parents, teachers, or employers. Someone was always "in charge" and had power "over" us. I'm done with that. What I would like to foster is an environment of partnership. Realizing that it takes a little "know-how" before one can contribute to the work, my suggestion is to learn by watching, then experiment by trying (and having others help you), and then join the team effort. Hopefully you won't find me or anyone else "in charge" - but you will discover leadership and authority. Leaders empower others, and authority is what we give to those who are compelled and constrained by love to serve others by contributing their gifts of skill and experience.

Don you sent me a message about my intro. I can't find it on the meetup.com site. Where is my mailbox?

Eric, there isn't a separate mailbox. I was referring to what you wrote when you joined - which shows up in your profile, I believe.

Wow. I really screwed up the date and time, didn't I? Too used to being out on the land without calendars and clocks. :)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
