Interesting Readings - May

Interesting Readings: a book club for the best in sci-fi, from quirky classics to fresh indie! Monthly meetings are held in the West Chester area.

Our May book will be Alfred Bester's THE DEMOLISHED MAN.

From Amazon.com: In the year 2301, guns are only museum pieces and benign telepaths sweep the minds of the populace to detect crimes before they happen. In 2301 murder is virtually impossible, but one man is about to change that...Ben Reich, a psychopathic business magnate, has devised the ultimate scheme to eliminate the competition and destroy the order of his society. The Demolished Man is a masterpiece of imaginative suspense, set in a superbly imagined world in which everything has changed except the ancient instinct for murder.

THE DEMOLISHED MAN was the first Hugo Award winner in 1953. The story was first serialized in three parts, beginning with the January 1952 issue of Galaxy Science Fiction, followed by publication of the novel in 1953.

It was good getting out, on my own as it were... I really enjoyed the evening, the general discussion - what I was able to hear of it.:-) I enjoyed the opportunity to get to know some of you better. Looking forward to the 28th.

Great discussion. Loved the round table. Enjoyed being under the dome more than the people in Stephen King's book.

As usual the people who sat next to me were interesting and it was great interacting with new people and sharing ideas about the book and life.

I love Bester. Not the character in Babylon 5, but Alfred. I look forward to rereading this one.

I read a lot of his work years ago, and will need to re-read for the Meetup.
