Interesting Readings - June

Interesting Readings: a book club for the best in sci-fi, from quirky classics to fresh indie! Monthly meetings are held in the West Chester area.

Our June book will be Neal Stephenson's THE DIAMOND AGE.

From Amazon.com:
Set in twenty-first-century Shanghai, it is the story of what happens when a state-of-the-art interactive device falls into the hands of a street urchin named Nell. Her life — and the entire future of humanity — is about to be decoded and reprogrammed.

Sorry I couldn't make it this time. I had a guest come in from out of town on short notice. Looking forward to seeing you all next time.

I did show up after everyone left, ha ha. It was okay though since I had a ton of things to do that night. I'm back in Mexico now, lol

A relevant bit of news: "In A Landmark First, An AI Program Fools The Turing Test"

Great discussion of the book. Lots of insights shared through which I gained new insights to the book.

So I was watching "How It's Made" (who can resist?), and a sequence about absinthe came on. Had we not been talking about it during Quizzo at our last meeting, I wouldn't have been so curious. Now I know WAY too much about absinthe. I also acquired a lot about belt buckles, walnut oil, cast iron bath tubs and other information that is generally useless outside your average Quizzo game. :)

Just joined the group. The notice is to short for me to make it to June 11 gathering, but hope to make it to a future meeting.

Haven't you read Diamond Age already?

Not yet. Also going to a Phillies game. If not, I would have been at TJs for poker and would have dropped in.
