Interesting Readings - Fantasy - October

For Halloween, we will read Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett.

The world will end on Saturday. Next Saturday. Just before dinner, according to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies written in 1655. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing and everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.

Pratchett's wackiness collaborates with Gaiman's morbid humor; the result is a humanist delight to be savored and reread again and again.

From the weather forecasts, it looks like Monday will be the worst day, and we'll be down to rain mostly on Tuesday. For now, the meetup is still on for the 30th, but if things take a nosedive, we'll certainly push it back.

Looking at the forecast, makes me think that we might want to delay this for a week or at least a couple of days.

As a parent, I don't think there's any chance I can go out on Halloween, but I will take this opportunity to re-read Good Omens, at least - thanks for the inspiration!

The 30th would probably be better for Scott and me as well :)

Would everyone prefer that we schedule it on the 30th, then? I don't want to be at a book club meeting by myself!
