I enjoy reading, occasionally (VERY occasionally since we had our second child) writing, playing videogames with my wife and watching some tv when the mood strikes. I'm currently a stay at home dad (I prefer the more literal "man of the house") with a 3 year old and a 9 month old. My wife works as a behavioral analyst, which is what moved us here from Utah a year ago.
Ooh, good question. I've never been a huge sci-fi reader, spending more time with fantasy books, but I'd have to say that Orson Scott Card's book Ender's Game was a real treat, especially reading it that first time as a teenager and being blown away. I'm really looking forward to broadening my reading with more sci-fi in the future. On the fantasy front, I love Scott Lynch's books and I'll never turn down a Jim Butcher book, for that matter. I also enjoy Dan Wells, John Brown, Larry Correia, Douglas Hulick, Daniel Polansky, Mark Lawrence and Patrick Rothfuss.
Not much else to add. I spend way too much time on the computer, and it's time to start having conversations with someone other than my 3 year old. While interesting, they're not always the most intellectually stimulating. I used to run a blog at http://myawfulreviews.blogspot.com but I gave it up because I needed to spend more time with my family and focus on starting to teach our son to read and write.
Hi there! I'm a 28 year old father of two who's somewhat new to the area and looking for folks that like to read sci-fi and fantasy.
Great group, and great discussion. I would highly recommend this to anyone that loves good sci-fi and fantasy. Honestly, if I held my own book club, it would be almost just like this, and I'm picky. The people seemed very nice and friendly, and a great time was had.
