I Liq Chuan, Internal Martial Arts of Awareness… for the Ladies

For you ladies out there who have been curious about martial arts, here is your chance to learn among other women in a safe and supportive environment. If you’ve been learning any other form of martial arts and are curious, this class will help you improve in whatever style you have been learning.

If you are looking for a typical self-defense class where you’ll learn a few moves and techniques – this is not for you. Instead, you will learn secrets of Internal Martial Arts rarely taught with so much detail and openness.

I Liq Chuan, is essentially, meditation in motion. Focus is on building awareness and mindfulness while going deeply into sensing and exploring the different energies: Yin, Yang and Center/Neutral, in each part of your body. You will learn how to express and manifest these energies using correct structure that allows the Qi (energy) to flow effortlessly. Understand that power comes from the Neutral energy – the balance of Yin and Yang rather than muscle strength.

The first step in I Liq Chuan is to “Unify Your Own Self” both on the mental and physical levels. To this end, we will be using the 15 Basic Exercises (Levels 1 and 2) to introduce the fundamental principles of I Liq Chuan. Partner work will further help us to explore and understand these energies both in our selves and in our partners.

Three core Mental Concepts of I Liq Chuan:

  • Present
  • Formless
  • Neutral

Philosophy on the process of learning I Liq Chuan:

“Learning is not to accumulate or imitate. It is a process of recognizing and realizing what’s within. Have your attention on all your senses to turn yourself into a reflective receiver. Have a direct link to the conditions; that is being mindful and aware of what is happening in the process of change; the cause and effect, and the cause and conditions. Maintain the moment of process of change. Do not think or judge. Just observe and feel the way things are. With mindfulness we learn, we look into our body, feeling mind and Nature.” – Master, Sifu Sam Chin
