Peter's amazing experiences as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer teaching English literature to student teachers in China. Hessler (Ho Wei to his pupils) arrived in Fuling in 1997, the year Deng Xiaoping died and Hong Kong returned to Chinese rule. He records these historic events and the incidents of classroom life with affection, respect, and a good measure of art. Click here to hear a National Geographic interview with Hessler.
