The presentation will begin with an introduction to the field of music therapy: its origins, development and application in various treatment settings. Current research in music therapy that relates to sound therapy will be presented and discussed. Similarities and differences between the two fields will be explored, and participants will be invited to share their ideas and questions. The goal of the presenter is to facilitate dialogue and cooperation between music and sound therapists.
Ellen Ritchey is the clinical coordinator for the Music Therapy Program at The University of Georgia. She holds Masters degrees in Music and Music Therapy from Southern Methodist University and received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The University of Georgia. She has practiced music therapy with a number of different populations and has given music therapy presentations in the United States and Canada. She is a member of the American Music Therapy Association, and is certified by the Certification Board for Music Therapists.
