------- Update February 25, 2013 --------
Firstly, I'd like to offer my sincere apologies for the lack of activity in this group over the last month.
I have been very busy with exams and work, but my exams are now over and everything went well :)
This meetup group has grown extraordinarly quickly due to great support from you all as members.
It has grown so big that we have now linked up with the Chambers Institute, an English school who will be organising conversational events very similar to what we have been doing in this meetup group.
Could I please ask all members to goin our new group?
The address is:
As existing meetup.com members, just click 'join group' and you'll be part of our new, improved and bigger conversational meetup group.
I will be moving into a similar administrative role with the Chambers Institute and we greatly look forward to providing social conversational events where we can all practice our conversational English.
I look forward to meeting you all at one of our future events and catching up with those who have attened our past.
This current 'Internationals in Melbourne Group' will be shutting down at the end of March.
All upcoming events will be organised from our new meetup group.
See you all on the other side.
With the growing ratio of international students in Australia looking to work here full time, one of the biggest barriers to finding work, meeting new people or gaining citizenship is English conversational skills.
This group aims to organise regular events throughout the year where members can converse solely in English, improve their fluency, improve their accents and just enjoy English proficiency.
Meetups will not be like formal classes as seen in English language schools. Instead, meetups will be held in casual environments with a range of fun activities where members can gain confidence in their English conversational abilities and feel just like a local.
If you'd like to improve your English skills in a group environment with people of a similar background, please join our group. Whether you're a student, on a working visa, backpacking or just hoping to speak more English and meet new people, all ages and backgrounds are welcome :)
Events will be run in small groups of no more than ten people and be run by a host who is fluent in English and one or more other Asian/European language.
Besides conversation sessions which will focus on a specific topic and be led by a native instructor, we will also have dinner events, movie nights and coffee gatherings throughout the year. These events will not be topic specific and are great for just meeting new people and chatting in English.
