First IoT Sydney meetup

Show up at 6pm for a 6:30 start. There will be someone on the door to let you in and directions to Web Direction offices will be sign posted. Some drinks and snacks will be provided.

Dan Friedman from Ninja Blocks will be discussing IoT protocols, open source and you might get a preview of this:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ninja/ninja-sphere-next-generation-control-of-your-envir

Dan Friedman is the CEO of Ninja Blocks. Ninja Blocks is an open source IOT platform that is helping to transform the world of connected devices. With over two years of experience in the world of IOT the Ninja Blocks team have a deep understanding of what is required to connect devices and the power of Open source. Dan will discuss Ninja's views of IOT protocols and the power of Open source.

Pete Field will be speaking about a new IoT framework he's building.

Pete Field believes that programming IoT devices can be made easier and faster, as well as more reliable and portable across a range of devices. For the first time ever, he’ll be introducing his very early stage IoT framework and explaining his philosophy and how he thinks IoT devices will be programmed in the future.

Laurent Goudet will be speaking about "2014: The Home Automation Revolution?"

After 30 years full of promise, hundreds of protocols, thousands of products, the highly-anticipated home automation revolution is yet to happen. Are smart homes doomed to stay a geek's hobby? What is refraining mass-market adoption of these technologies? And how the Internet of Things revolution is about to change the deal?

I've posted my slides to github,
    http://pedalpete.github.io/konscio-presentation/#/

It has the notes and everything, my talk was a bit short because lots of stuff had already been covered. I'll probably be re-naming the project this week, and getting back into coding more after the positive response. I also came across this article yesterday, which some might find interesting, VERY much along similar lines (and just over a year old...) http://www.voodootikigod.com/nodebots-the-rise-of-js-robotics/

Hey Justin, looks like that will have to be me. Between work deadlines and transport hassles, I'm going to have to give it up, worse luck. I'll un-RSVP now.

So this should be good. I’m in it, and hope to see more of the MooresCloud team come along. Also looking forward to meeting more folks in this space. And having a beer with Justin and me ol’ mate Lindsay.

    October 29, 2013

    • Justin M.

Would someone from the MooresCloud team like to give a short (10-15 min) demo/talk?

      November 3, 2013

  • Justin M.

A big thanks to everyone who joined and signed up for the first meeting so far. We're currently half full. I'm in the process of sorting out the main speaker(s) and may have a small surprise which I can announce soon.

On the night I'd like to have a couple of 5 -10 minutes talks to go a long with the main one(s). So if anyone is willing to:
    - Get up and show something they have been working on
    - Show a commercial product or service related to IoT and their experience with it
    - Explain a protocol or how to use a piece of software in the OS hardware/software space
    - Anything else hat would of be interest to the meet up

Please don't hesitate to contact me.

Thanks Justin, I've been working on an IoT programming framework built in Node.js, could do a quick intro to my philosophy and the direction I hope programming devices takes. My framework is in prototype stage, and doesn't have a name or anything yet, but I've got some basics working on Raspberry Pi.
