Wednesday Night Westie Walk: Mangere Bridge to Pikes Point

Please note the earlier time of 6.30 pm and bring a headlamp or torch

A group of people from out west decided that we would like a shorter walk during the week to increase our fitness level for our longer weekend walks. These walks will be mainly in West Auckland, but once in a while may be in other areas of Auckland.

This week’s Wednesday night walk will be a pleasant and easy walk over the old Mangere Bridge towards Onehunga where we will join the Pikes Point Foreshore Walkway. This walk is part of the Manukau Foreshore East Walkway and runs for about four kilometres along the edge of the Mangere Inlet. We will then return the same way to Mangere Bridge.

Meeting Point: Car park Corner of Kiwi Esplanade & Coronation Road, Mangere Bridge

Walking Time: approx 1.5 - 2 hrs depending on fitness of the group

Walk difficulty: This is an easy flat walk, but we will be walking at a reasonably pace.

What to wear and bring: Good walking shoes, water, snacks, warm jumper and wet weather gear, torch or headlamp

We will leave on time in fairness to the whole group.

Group members have indicated that they like to walk in a smaller group with a preferred maximum of 25. Therefore the limit on our walks will remain at 25. Thank you for your understanding :-)

Hi. Nice walking with you to Pikes Pt and back. Whilst on the walk a few people showed some interest in the Cancer Society 'Walking Stars' event on Saturday 30 Nov 2013. Distance is 21.09km and will take a strider at 5kph around 4 to 5 hours. No running allowed! Cost is $59 if you register before Aug 31. You can register online at I am definitely doing it and will be registering in the weekend. Should anyone want to carpool I am happy to drive and will have 3 spaces available in my car. Give it thought and I can chat more if you are on Sunday's walk.
