This free, hands-on workshop will explore the cause of canyoneering accidents and near accidents over the last several years and provide solutions to prevent future occurrences.

Basic self-rescue

Myths surrounding common canyoneering knots and bends

Anchor evaluation


Instructor: Steve Morga,  owner of Intrepid Adventure Sports.

Steve is an American Canyon Guides Association Certified Guide and board member.

    Thanks Steve. Well organized and a good review of basic safety procedures which we all should know and hopefully will be even more diligent in applying. All the accidents were preventable if common sense, attention to details and better awareness of the overall situation had been employed. We need to watch out for ourselves and for each other.

    Current GJ weather for tomorrow calls for a high of 48 degrees, windy and raining. Bangs could be 3-5 degrees cooler in addition to the wet wind. My attendance will be directly related to operational conditions. ;-)

    Directions: From the intersection of First Street and Grand Avenue in Grand Junction, travel west on Grand Avenue (Highway 340) for approximately one mile and turn left on Monument Road. Turn left again on D Road. D Road becomes Rosevale Road. Turn right onto Little Park Road. Travel approximately three miles on Little Park Road until you reach the Little Park Trailhead. Travel an additional two and half miles to reach the Bangs Canyon Trailhead.
