Hi fellow introverts. We schedule most of our meetups in Lake County, but since we've been getting more members from all over the place, we've been scheduling more meetups in Chicago, Cook County suburbs, and a few north of the border in Wisconsin, or a bit West in McHenry County, just to give you an idea of locations.
We also run other groups. See links below...
For those of us who are introverts/loners and/or "live inside" our heads, making new friends can be more of a challenge since even the chattier types of us tend to be more quiet overall in new social situations. We don't mind awkward silences and tend to "observe" others for awhile first before joining in.
Or, we don't fit into the typical "extrovert" social cliques because the idea of meeting others at bars, clubs, or the usual social groups, makes us cringe when we'd rather go to a bookstore, museum, theater, park, library, (our own computers) or other "low key" areas/activities. Our nervous systems get easily overstimulated so we need some "space" from too much of it sometimes.
We wanted to start an activity group for folks like us. Even though we don't mind doing things alone, even introverts crave some friendship and it gets old doing things alone all the time. Personally, I love movies and I thought a movie group would be a nice non-threatening way to meet new people with no unrealistic expectations of each other.
Keep in mind that this is not a singles group, but just a laid back activity group. (But if you meet someone you spark with, we won't stand in the way. We're all adults). Friends and family of members are welcome at most of our meetups, as long as they are appropriate and respectful to other members.
**This type of group is going to work best for those who have more flexible schedules, especially on the weekends since meetup dates or details may get adjusted from time to time.**
So, if this sounds like you, maybe our group will work for you. This group is almost four years old now, so be gentle, patient and open minded in your judgment of it since the organizers are also introverts. We want to make this group as user friendly as possible for folks like us. Our group is pretty well rated, but please refrain from making negative comments about a meetup, if you haven't actually attended one of our meetups before making those comments. You can't judge our group fairly, unless you make the effort to attend at least a few of our meetups first.
We do schedule quite a few other types of activities besides movies. Members are welcome to post meetup ideas on our calendar.
We do require pictures of new members, but you can change it to anything you want after we approve your membership. Our group is private, so only other members will see your pictures.
We run other groups if you're interested:
- See you soon!
Please note, that Meetup charges organizers a fee to run our groups, but most of us do not pass that cost onto our members so you usually get to join our groups for free. It's a reasonable fee, but since we are paying for our groups, we get to set the basic rules for our groups. If you do not care for the rules we set for our groups, then find another group, or start your own. Meetup allows organizers to run up to three groups under the fee they charge, which is a pretty good deal.
